Leaky coach water pump 1986 23ft front lounge model
Hello all, new to the forum and fairly new to RV'ing, we bought our 1986 lazy daze coach about a year ago and are on another trip through the Western US. As I write this we are in Green River, UT. headed to Moab for a few days. Well, as luck would have it... after rebuilding the drive line before we left (runs soooo smooth now) and replacing the awning we never had; the coach water pump began leaking. I see drops coming down right over the LPG tank. I can hear the water pump cycling on momentarily every couple of minuets which has to be the cause of the leak... I just cannot find the thing to affect a repair or at the very least to asses the severity of the leak. Which, by the way, is getting worse. A few questions.

1. Am I suffering water damage to the coach itself? I cannot see where the water is coming from but it seems to be migrating toward the cab on the drivers side.
2. What am I in for in terms of a repair $$ wise?
3. Is this better left to a shop?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

If you can't find the leak, how do you know it is the water pump? The pump is located on the opposite side of the rig than the propane tank.
In a Front Lounge, there are no water lines near the propane tank, assuming it is still located on the driver's side, under a barrel chair.
A leak in the kitchen or under the floor, in the utility channel, is the nearest source of water, no way of telling without a lot of looking.

Continued leaking will eventually rot the effected area, you need to find it.
No idea on the cost not knowing what needs to be done. If you can't fix it, an RV shop is the alternative, expect around a $100 an hour labor charges.
The sooner it is fixed, the less damage.
If a recent leak, just drying the rig out may be all that is needed, to prevent rot damage....after fixing the leak.

Do  you know where the water pump is?  It should be in the cabinet under the refrigerator and it is accessible .
The hoses connecting to the pump often loosen and leak, tightening the hose clamps and/or pump fittings, usually cures a pump leak.

David - the pump cycling (coming on regularly) indicates you are losing pressure in your water supply lines and indicates there is leak somewhere or a fixture not fully turned off,
Many people do not have their pump on all the time especially if they leave the rig (unexpected leaks can flood the rig unnoticed if no one is there).  Instead just turning it on as needed.

Turning your pump off when not in use will help slow down the leak.

As Larry indicated, some detective work is needed to figure things out.  What is above the LP tank?  Where Is your closest water lines and fixtures.  While there can be branches including ones you might not expect, line runs between inlets for fresh water tank, to fresh water tank, to the water pump,  one branch headed to hot water tank and then paths both from the hot water tank and the pump (for cold water) going to the all the fixtures.  Consider if there was an evaporative cooler in the rig at some point (water would have gone there).  Also consider if there is water on the roof pooled from heavy rains or the air conditioner to make sure that water is coming from plumbing (to rule out that two issues might be happening at once),

Let us know what you find out as you progress in your discoveries.

My water pump issue is similar, 94 TK 23’.
The water pump cycles every few minutes so we turn off the pump… when we turn on the pump and use the water, water leaks out the city water valve… I have screwed the plastic cover on and water continues to leak out.. when we turn the pump off the water stops.

I understand the pump is located under the bottom drawer.  We replaced the water pump 5yrs ago.
Final part of the equation, my wife had the water heater on for an 1.5 hours before taking a shower… I believe this might have messed damaged either the pump or possibly the city water valve?
Any suggestions or remedies.

The city water inlet check valve needs replacing.

A temporary fix would be to use a male, plastic hose fitting and a hose washer and cap the fitting off until fixed.
Amazon.com: Camco ¾" Male Hose Plug with Lanyard - Helps keep Dust and Dirt...

With a tight-fitting plug and washer, it should seal. Many of us keep the city water inlet permanently capped off, only using water from the tank and the onboard water pump. Campground and city water supplies are subject to high-pressure surges that can damage the LD's plumbing and water pump unless a high-quality pressure regulator is used.

Larry, I have the male plastic cap fitting, water continues to hiss out… I had Vince replace this fitting 5yrs ago.
Is there anything I can do to tighten the valve or does the entire valve need to be replaced again.

Thanks again,
Chris
