OnThe List-The Right List
On the list.

Spoke to Todd today and he confirmed 18 months, but a moving target. Spoke to Steve last week and Todd was not in but many questions answered between the 2.

I told Todd I was very happy with previous sob but the LD windows and uniqueness just keep calling me. I hope I am happy with it when it is time, a year and a half though. I suspect it will be less.

I have a number of things that I at not fond of but the floor plans, rarity, and those windows are very appealing. I told Todd the same and he just said please let me know if you change your mind. Of course, common courtesy.

Unfortunately I will likely only see the TK and MB. He indicated he would only have those 2 to see in May when I can get there.

My first choices are the RB and FD but want to see the MB also. Not sure how I will see my choices yet.

I have read this forum and searched many times but will have some questions for those willing to share info after I compile a list.

My name is Jan, Vail (Tucson) Az.

Well done Jan.  As you probably already know, LD owners and those planning to be a LDO have lots of questions.  Frankly, you really can't ask too many questions in this Neighborhood.   Looking forward to hearing about your developing adventure with a new LD and all of your questions.  Welcome.

Jan Ask here if anyone in your area has one of the models you want to see.  Many folks are willing to show off their RV.
I am at the Morro Bay gathering right now and there is someone here from Tucson. I forget what Rig they have, but I’ll try to find them in the next day or so and tell them to pop on the forum and connect with you.

There is also the Quartzsite AZ gettogether each Jan.  Lots of LDs there and people gladly show their rigs.  But that might be after you have to choose your model.

Many people are traveling in or through AZ this month so you should be find people to show you their LD.

Congratulations Jan!  - We were very excited to get on the list last spring and placed our order in the fall - hoping to take ownership of our new rig this summer. I was leaning toward the mid-bath after seeing one at the mothership. Then we found a local (central Pennsylvania) LD owner willing to show us his 31' island bed and my husband was sold on it. That is what we ordered. So looking forward to our great adventure starting this summer!

I am putting it together now so not to trouble people too many times. Got a running list.

I keep missing quartzite though I am relatively close. I have looked at the map and most here are much older or different models and not sure what I will get from that. But I will look further through the profiles.

Thank you and good for you cgoochee. I stumbled across that model on Youtube and was very nice. In fact I kept thinking wow. But I am alone with likely one dog on delivery. I would rather have a smaller mh for just me.

I too am alone with a small dog and I can't imagine being comfortable in a smaller RV than my 30'IB.   :o

Jan ,

In 2014, I was convinced that I wanted the 27’ MB. All the photos that I had seen had convinced me that it was the perfect LD for my DW and me.

At the Mothership in September of ‘15 we stepped inside the beautiful MB on display. My first impression was
that the interior was gorgeous. My wife felt the same. Our second impression was that it was divided into two distinct living areas. It was the wrap around windows that had first drawn me to the MB. The distinct living areas had me second guessing my desire for the MB.

We took a look at the RB. Stepping inside it had a different feeling. One large well appointed RV that was open from end to end. For us, it felt better. The openness was what stood out. We felt more comfortable with the space. Within 24 hours, we had placed our order for our 27’ RB.

27’ is no problem for me. Markets and malls always seem to have a place for the rig. The added 3 feet has never presented a problem to driving or parking. It’s a breeze to drive.

As always, it’s a good idea to see several floor plans then lock yourself into your contract with the factory. Most of us are only too happy to welcome new friends to take a look around.

Best of luck with your future purchase.

Jan the layouts are the same over the years (for the same models) so if you can look at how it feels to sit in it and ignore color of cabinets, an older LD will give you a very good idea).  How do you feel sitting in them?  What about sleeping - have you ever slept over the cab (if not rent an rv and try it), if you are sleeping on twin beds made into a king are you ok with spending a couple minutes each day making and unmaking the bed or are you OK leaving it as one setup the entire time?

Who all is traveling with you (even visits from friends) including 4 legged critters?  Is there times you do not to be around anyone and want a space only for you?  Do smaller spaces feel confining to you?  Think of when you are very stressed as our good days we can tolerate a lot but when we are really stressed we usually feel most comfortable in certain situations (our own space or not in a smaller space).  If you are not sure rent an RV or two different modules and spen a weekend in it the way you expect to be using your RV.

The big difference I hear from people is the two more closed off areas in a mid bath vs a bigger more open space.  I sat in Kent’s rear bath this trip and yes it makes a huge difference, enough DH almost changed his mind of what floor plan he wanted for out forever rig.  But we like the two more separate rooms of the mid bath for when we want some alone time (away from the other person).
The wrap around windows are what we really want but I was suprised In Kent’s rear bath how much window space he had in his sitting area.  It felt very close to the wrap around windows in the mid bath/TK.

The twin king that we have feels more open then the mid bath - a larger open area with the kitchen and lounge area combined but not two separate areas for two people to each have their own space.  Also the lounge area is your only sitting area so if you are using it for sleeping you need to figure out the logistics (one bed one couch, or make it into a bed at night and a couch during the day or ...

Like everything else in the RV world,. thinkwhat you are using your RV for (short trips, fulltiming), who will be in it, and when people get stressed (it will happen at some point) what is most comforting to them.

A P.S. I would guess a lot of people are not on the map - so doing a post with a title “ HEY, anyone in Tucson AZ area willing to show their LD” you will get plenty of replies.  We did this a couple years ago and had about 5 people volunteer to show their midbath off - most passing thru town on the next month or two,  As I said it is RVing time in AZ so likely there is a lot of visitors around.

With the TK, you can have a second seating area (for one) by getting a swivel base kit for the front passenger seat. Great reading area with the brighter light through the untinted windshield. — Jon
(Former) ‘06 TK “Albatross.” And (former) Vespa 250.   Alas, no more; both are gone.😕 Great memories remain! 😄

We have a 2003 30' IB that I just remodeled the interior with current fabric from LD and Ultraleather.  Also put in vinyl seamless floor from cab to back, no ugly carpeting left.  It is parked behind my office building in Tucson, AZ at Broadway and Pantano.  If anyone wants to see it, please call me,  520-260-0359.

I have seen many photos through this site, though you have to dig for them. The FD and RB are hard to find in the media section.  No doubt the MB and TK are the most popular. Steve at the mothership said otherwise, but I do not buy it. I have looked all over the web and youtube, old ads etc. The one good thing is that the changes are few and the older ones are very similar in appearance to the newer ones.

I have owned one other MH, a corner bed and very much liked the open area it gave. Went deep into Canada from here with 2 very large dogs, 2 cats and my mother. This was a 25.5 foot coach. Although the slide had to be out of course. No problems.
The choice of a separate area like the MB or an open area like the RB is a choice I will have to make, but I can see the benefits of both of course.

I have thought about the irony of the TK being similar to the MB but with an openness about it. Thanks for reenforcing that. I may give the TK more thought.
But I must tell you my concern with it is the drivers seat position and the toilet/bath. That has not been appealing to me but I have not actually seen it so open to your opinions on this concern of mine specific to the TK.

Kent Heckethorn

I have paid particular attention to your posts since you have the RB. I might shoot you a pm and inquire a little. If that is ok.

Jon and Loni and Charles and Donna. I was wondering about that. I had a sprinter and both standard seats turned fully. I have seen a few Fords with the swivel also, but usually an upgrade I think.

Thank you very much and will take you up on that. I have to make my semi monthly Costco run Thursday. I will call first. I was a 50 year eastsider before moving a little further east to Vail.

RE: TK driver seat vs bathroom

In the older (I don't know when this change) the bathroom wall was a hard stop.   In the newer ones the bathroom wall behind the driver is attached by springs so you can move the driver seat back to the limits of driver seat.   That's the upside.   The downside is DW  finds it a bit crowded when using the facilities.   It's part of a camping habit to move the driver seat forward when parked for the night or weeks.
<smile> The other downside is if you forget to put the toilet seat down you will be reminded as some point in the drive when you hear a very loud bang when it descies to lower itself.

Thanks. The TK is beautiful with those windows . I appreciate your remarks as that is what I saw on the few videos I could find on youtube. That is a must see for me when I go to the factory. It does make me prefer the FD without having seen either.

My 2003 TK has the behind the driver's seat spring-loaded cut-out; I've never found this to be an issue, either for driving position or for using the bathroom. I set my preferred driver's seat position and leave it; for me, the cut-out 'flap' extends about an inch and a half or so into the bathroom.

It's true that the TK bath is very 'compact'; it's fully functional, but the size is a deal-breaker for some who might otherwise like the TK's layout. My 2003 came with a heavy, useless 'medicine cabinet'; I dumped it and put up wire shelving, added stick-on 'holders' for soap and shampoo in the shower, and changed the stiff shower and window curtains.

I travel solo most of the time; the floor plan works for me, but YMMV.  ;)
