How to Search Within the Forum and Advanced Search May 12, 2016, 10:41:39 am It might not be obvious yet, but there is a more advanced search available for this new forum.Hover over "Community" on the upper left, then click "Search" and you should get the following. Note you can put in words or phrases, change the sort order, change the date range, select only certain categories/boards, even search just for a particular user's post (e.g. you recall that about a year ago, user SuzieQ posted about a great coffee maker - you can search for her posts specifically)Hope that helps y'all have even more fun with the new formatMichelle 1 Likes
How to search within a forum Reply #1 – December 18, 2016, 11:13:47 pm If it's possible to search within a forum for information, can anyone point me in the right direction?Thank you.Mimi
Re: How to search within a forum Reply #2 – December 18, 2016, 11:26:33 pm At the top of the page , click "Community", the second column is "Search".http://www.lazydazeowners.com/index.php?action=searchOften, while looking for an old posting, I will go back to our previous Yahoo site and use its search engine. It does a better job of finding older postings. Things got a little scrambled during the to transition to the new forum and our new search engine isn't as effective, IMO.Yahoo! GroupsLarry
Re: How to search within a forum Reply #3 – December 19, 2016, 12:56:25 am Thank you Larry. Is that searching everything or within a particular forum? <edit> never mind I just saw that I can search within forums> I'll try it. So far, I'm just getting too many search results. I'll try the yahoo site too. Thank you.Mimi
Re: How to search within a forum Reply #4 – December 19, 2016, 06:50:32 pm Quote from: Opuntia - December 18, 2016, 11:13:47 pmIf it's possible to search within a forum for information, can anyone point me in the right direction? It is. From the main Search (hovering over Community and selecting Search), go to the bar above "all boards" that says "choose a board...) and click it. This will let you select which boards to search. Also, if you haven't noticed, there are advanced options that let you sort the results on relevance (basically how many times in a thread the search terms are present), chronologically, or by how many responses there are. You can also search only a certain timeframe, say if you only want to see results from the past year or if you are looking for a specific post from 2 years ago, narrow the results to something like 400-700 days. You can also search by poster, if you are looking for, say, JCT's posts on a subject, you can put JCT in the "By user" field. The search here is much more powerful and user-customize-able than what was on Yahoo. It is different, but that's because we want to produce the most accurate (and useful) results.Michelle
How to Search Within the Forum and Advanced Search Reply #5 – February 18, 2019, 12:07:13 pm There have been some questions/comments lately on how to use the Search function. With that in mind, I have merged two older Search threads and am reposting them now as a refresher. The Advanced Search function, which many of you may not be aware of, allows you to drill much deeper than just a general search.Chris

Re: How to Search Within the Forum and Advanced Search Reply #12 – February 19, 2019, 04:46:21 pm If you have some examples, let me know so I can take a look. I've recently made a small update to the relevance factor equation which *may* help.

Not sure why, as the topic has already been found. And no, I don't think like everyone else.

I'm not sure what you mean.Chris
Re: How to Search Within the Forum and Advanced Search Reply #15 – February 21, 2019, 09:19:05 am My mistake. At top right of every post is 'How to Search Within the...' I find it's not hot, so I have no idea why it's there.I think a Search tab would be better than burying it in Community.

Re: How to Search Within the Forum and Advanced Search Reply #17 – February 21, 2019, 11:47:02 am It is of course possible, but since we are providing IMO's here, I also think its the wrong thing to do. There is already a search bar at the top right of very page (Chris you may not see that if you are not using the normal theme). That search bar already allows you to search the entire forum, a specific board or just the current topic.

The search box does not display at the top right of any page when using the iPad or iPhone; the search function is available through 'Search' in 'Community' only.

There are 4 different forum themes available under My Account > Look and Layout: Forum or Board Default, Generic, Lazy Daze and Separation. I am/was one of only 5 members using Separation and the Separation theme does not include the Search box to the upper right that the other 3 themes have. I have changed themes to be in sync with the rest of you.☺️ Steve, please disregard my question. This search function, however, does not appear to have the advanced search capabilities that the search function under Community has. If I'm wrong on this, please correct me, Steve.Chris
Re: How to Search Within the Forum and Advanced Search Reply #21 – February 22, 2019, 06:41:26 am Theme's I had no idea there were such things.I guess I don't see much with my right eye as Search is at the top of every thread. I must remember to scroll back up to see it, as it is not a fixed header. Never mind.
