Propane Regulator Replacement

Larry commented recently that since a regulator 10 years old was due for replacement, I ordered one.
I ordered a Marshall Excelsior MEGR-291. Upon receipt, I learned that I needed one with the vent pointing downward.
Trying to get smart, I removed the old regulator as the mfg stamps the model number on the back side. I have a model 290-1 on a 2007 LD. This model is discontinued. I am guessing I could use MEGR-295 as it vents down. Anyone know for sure???

Guess I could ask Vince.

When I removed the low-pressure end of the regulator, I found the cutoff valve leaks meaning the tank will have to be emptied. Thinking I may be over my head here and need to get a qualified gas mechanic.

A leaking propane valve is a job for a propane shop, the tank needs to be drained. Ideally the wrenches used to remove he valve are non-sparking brass.

Marshall and Camco regulators have only one vent configuration, for horizontal regulators . If the vent ends up on the top, the cure it rotate the regulator over 180 degrees, so the vent is pointed downward, to keep water from entering the diaphragm chamber. If you're going to set the regulator's pressure, do it and then rotate the regulator, with the gas off.

Hi Don. A 298 regulator, mounted on it's side, so that you can adjust the water column, would have the vent pointed down. If the regulator is mounted up and down, then the 291 regulator which vents out the end , would be facing down. Pictures of what was there before would help. RonB

Thanks, Larry, I will find someone to handle this. I can drain the tank no problem and will probably have to be anyone will service it. I don't have a single brass wrench. Don't know that I have ever seen one. Wish I lived close to you.

The 291 regulators vents horizontally, on the 295 it exits down.

I don't own any brass wrenches either, having been badly burned once by propane, I'm a little gun shy when it comes to the stuff
