Wonder how much the lithium option is going to cost?
Lithium is coming, it's getting cheaper and better understood every day. The downside is the very extensive electronic and computer controls, there is a lot to go wrong and finding techs able to service it will be difficult .

Little disappointing to see that to have battery large enough to run the A/C all night, would take a 15,000-watt battery.
That, presently, is a very expensive battery. Pricing batteries at AM Solar, a battery this size would be in the $20,0000 range.
Pleases. to see that the European 48-volt system is being adopted, it's needed for the high operating wattages.
Interesting that the engine is being used for battery charging, think how big a generator our V10s could run, at a high idle.

I would interested in seeing hybrid version that utilizes the lithium battery for both the coach's needs and to boost highway performance, this shouldn't be too difficult considering all the efforts the Germans are putting into electric and hybrid vehicles Mercedes-Benz Sprinter now also with diesel-electric hybrid drive

Hi Steve. I'm sure Larry meant $20 k dollars. A bit much for a motorhome, but some of the deluxe motorhomes are in the million dollar range. The 15KW version sounds like something you would put in a house.
    As far as being a good investment; well expensive does get you a battery good for 5000 charge- discharge cycles. That is more than lead acid batteries. And you can discharge them to near zero without harming them. So yes the investment might be worth it in the long run. For some RV manufacturers 'Long Run' is about five years. I don't think Thor would be putting any Trillium battery packs in their motorhomes anytime soon.    RonB

Mine neither, the price I listed has one too many zeros and should have read $20,000.
Still a big chunk of cash.

All this new technology is interesting and may well someday be cost effective but for the time being I don't think there's anything out there that can compete with the standard issue wet cell battery. If I was in my 20s I might be more excited about these new batteries but at my age I'm sure I'll be sucking meals through a straw before I'm sucking power from a lithium battery in my RV.

And then some!  One of these 45' will set one back almost as much as a garden shed-sized fixer upper (burner downer) house in the Bay Area!  ;)

For those people this new technology might be fun and provide an opportunity for real world testing that will eventually trickle down to the masses so I hope  they participate in large numbers.

Well, not to be a total wet blanket, but I don't think electric only vehicles with batteries is the correct direction for alternative power systems. Rather, I'm much more of a believer in hybrid technologies as they optimize the relative strengths of electric motors, (smaller) batteries and (fuel) engines.

There's really no mystery nor magic bullet when it comes to batteries. The basic principles have remained unchanged for 150 years. Only some components have been altered to provide lighter weight for (micro) electronics. So, unless the laws of physics are revised, there isn't going to be any "breakthrough" that changes the picture.

Rather, the key is contained and distributed energy, whether it's an IC engine or some kind of wireless broadcast. Fun fact, Tesla was actually interested in this possibility as a mean of bypassing stringing millions of miles of high voltage power lines. Using electric motors for low-speed, high-torque requirements allows the primary fuel engines (and transmissions) to be geared towards higher RPM cruising speeds. This configuration in turn can be optimized to re-charge the nominal batteries required for the electric motors.

The real key is to watch the major transport manufactures and carriers. What they do will signal to the rest of the industry - including RV chassis - what the future holds in store. Which then lets me get up on my soapbox and declare new tech tow vehicles combined with static trailers is the optimal solution.

You'd think they could at least round off those ridiculous figures to the nearest $100. !!!
