Do fitted sheets fit?
Again not having my rig where I can measure, poke and investigate, I need some thoughts from you all. 2005 RK which has two couches, one a bit longer. I have egg crate foam for both sizes. My question: When I pull the couch out, just enough for me, will I be able to put a twin fitted sheet over the foam and will the fitted corners "grab" the couch? I would like to keep the overhead for storage but I don't want to make/unmake a bed every day. I pick up my rig Monday and leave for my maiden voyage Friday. So, if I need to rethink where I am going to sleep/store stuff I should be working on a plan. Any thoughts welcome, Sharon

Joan, I managed to snag the last "shade" hat from Amazon..Evidently after your mention there was a run on 'em-)
Okay, just kidding!

We use a king fitted sheet on the overhead bunk and twin sheets on the rear couches of our MB.  None of them are a perfect fit, but they get the job done.

Obviously, there are many with not only a practical nature, but exquisite taste!  ;)

Re:  twin fitted sheets.... In my TK, I use a twin-size 2" memory foam "mattress pad" on the longer couch; the pad is nominally 39" wide, actually 38". On the other couch - the base cushion is shorter and wider; it serves as a guest bed with the back cushion removed and the support down, but the couch is not pulled out into the aisle - I use a 3" memory foam mattress pad that is 34" wide; I ordered it cut down from a standard twin mattress pad. I use inexpensive cotton twin fitted sheets (Target) on both of these; when made up, neither bed is going to pass the "bounce a quarter" test, but if the sheets stay in place and don't ruck up, I don't really care. (Function over form, in this case.)

However, the mattress pads I use are probably a lot thicker and certainly heavier than an egg crate foam mattress topper; I would think that trying to use a fitted sheet on a thin mattress pad would pull up the corners of the pad and turn the bed surface into the shape of a big cup. You might want to get an inexpensive fitted sheet and see if it works, but I suggest having a "Plan B" in mind.

Good luck!

Halfmile,

When I bought my 2005 RK I first went with the fitted sheet.  I used a king along with a 2" topper.  While we liked the setup there were a couple of problems that I decided just weren't worth the hassle.  Keeping the one large bed made up didn't allow easy access to the overhead cab for storage.  Tearing down the bed each morning was also an inconvenience.   I decided to go with two separate beds.  The fitted sheet was out  - too much trouble.  I put down a mattress topper cut to the size of one bed and cover it with a regular sheet.  I purchased a double wide sleeping bag and liner.  This arrangement is very easy to setup and tear down but I usually just leave the one bed alone.  Access to the cab is easy and we have the opposing  couch available.   The bag liner is quite comfortable and keeps the sleeping bag clean.

Good ideas. I'm going to check tomorrow on liner. I don't want to "tear down/make up" every night, want to keep the overhead for storage. My time is short and my shopping is EXTREMELY limited where I live so I do want to have what I need, or would work. Thank you all for your time and thoughts! I'll will let you all know before my launch and after I leave home base hopefully will be able to check in. My oldest son, Marine Aviator, (HooRa)currently deployed, and those wonderful grandchildren, will be meeting me for Christmas in the Palm Springs area and by then I should know what is working and be able to make some adjustments. Before then just desert-).
Thank you all that have helped me prepare for my maiden voyage. It is appreciated.

rprice-another 2005 RK That's fun! I hope your rig works well for you and yours. I fell in love with my rig the moment I stepped into the cabin and after a year and a half of not feeling "warm and fuzzy" I felt I had found my home for the adventure I was envisioning. Thanks for your thoughts, Sharon

We have always used a lightweight sleeping bag with a sheet sewn in. Roll it up in the morning and store it in the overhead bin. Bed made.

Tried mattress toppers, not for us. Love the extra firm couches.

I assume you meant 'queen'? Not to nitpick, but in case a new owner accidentally buys the wrong thing...

I go along with Don, we have a 'HackSack' like a Travasack sleeping bag with sheets, King size 83" x 84" for the back when converted to sleeping. It rolls up and stores in the cabinet across the back. With the round down of the roof there, the cabinet might not fit much else very well. Perfect for the bedroll, and pillows. I installed enclosures to protect the back of the speakers, with better 6 x 9 " speakers, sort of an acoustic suspension/ducted port enclosure. Otherwise the bedroll muffled the speakers too much.  RonB

You must be tougher than I, the cushions are much too hard for my bones to sleep on, needing  a 3" memory foam pad to soften it for comfort.
My wife and I sleep up in the bunk and have a full bed with real sheets, blankets and a heavy quilt, for winter use. The bedding was designed to be easily adjustable, having the ability to add or removed blankets and the top quilt, good for seasonal changes,

A fixed bed eliminates the setting up each night and then having to put it away every morning.
The bunk is always available for quick nap. I'm not interested in owning an RV that doesn't have a fixed bed.

We use a King on the MB overcab bed.

The size of the actual bed is closer to Queen, but we find the King stays on better during the inevitable sliding on and off that comes along with the reduced headroom.  That bed is mostly for our kids, however, and they don't seem to mind the extra fabric.

I use double sheets on the 31 IB, which I refer to as the 'queen' of a very small country.
It stays made, and the dogs use it as a day bed when stopped.
