MagneTek 6345 Converter Replacement
I just replaced my old converter (MagneTek 6345) with a four-stage Progressive Dynamics PD4645VL converter. Everything seems to work well (after four phone calls to Randy from Bestconverter.com). Does the old converter (which was also working fine but was just a one-stage charging unit) still have any value or should it go straight to recycling or trash?

Unless you want to keep it as a spare, dump it.
It has a small 12-volt cooling fan that can be salvaged.

I made a similar swap, and even though I keep many working "old" parts, in this case the Magnetek went straight to the metal recycling center.

I found the installation of the replacement DC fuse board to be the most difficult part of the swap. The positive and negative connections to the house battery bank were stiff, and could have been a few inches longer.

And yes, getting the new board in is difficult.

6 years later, the new PD still works great.

I agree (Lazy Daze could have been two inches more generous with the battery cables). However, in the end I managed. I ran the positive battery cable in front of and the negative cable behind the board.

I also think that the instructions kind of suck. There are two pairs of black and white wires going from the converter to the AC section (above, on the left) and the DC section (above, on the right) - and these wire pairs have to be connected crosswise. I did it wrong at first and wondered why it was "kind of but not really" working. Well, in the end I also got that sorted out.

And since I changed the position of some fuses I created I nice new label that I attached to inside of the converter cover (and in which I right now discovered a typo in the #11 description).

I just saw this video by Andy! Hilarious.  Done like a true New Mexican!  Except you missed the arroyo.  (PS, lived here all my life!) And yes I am kidding just as I know you were!
