Re: Rule #1 for Good MPG Reply #2 – October 21, 2018, 08:51:20 am Texas is something else. My dad had various campers throughout his life; a small Airstream when we were kids, and after he retired, a Class A, and a 5th wheel. Once, when he was in his late 70s, he was dragging his 5th wheel across Texas, doing about 85 mph (no one ever accused him of being cautious), which at that time was about 10mph over the speed limit. He was pulled over and the conversation with the officer went like this:Officer: Sir, I need to see your driver's license, insurance and registration. Do you know how fast you were going? My dad: It must have been at least 85.Officer: Do you know what the speed limit is here?My dad: Listen son. I'm an old man, and if I don't do at least 85, I'm gonna die before I get across your State. The officer laughed, gave him a warning and asked him to slow down. Somehow, I don't think dad ever much cared about maximizing his gas mileage. 10 Likes
