WATT Propane/Solar Fuel Cell coming on the market
I would love to see Lazy Daze have this as an option to my generator that mostly gets used monthly to make sure that it is ready to run in the rare times when I need it.

With LD's history of technological innovation, the seas will rise another 5 inches before we would see it, but one can only hope.

Their website is WATT Imperiumâ„¢ - Watt Fuel Cell

Their Imperium lists 500 W continuous power w/ 1500 W Peak.
Reefer Si, Air conditioner No unless we come up with a new A/C technology.
I sent them a note asking if they had one the size of an Onan 4000 that would drive a 15,000 btu  A/C.
Will see what comes back.

We have been discussing and patiently waiting for an adequately sized fuel cell, on this site, for 15 years.
Here is a posting made in 2004 pertaining to off-the-shelf fuel cells.
Yahoo! Groups
The Watt fuel cell is getting closer to a practical replacement for the generator but it is still inadequate for running the A/C , the sweet spot many of us have been waiting a long time for.
Surprisingly, fuel cells have been around a very long time and were used to power the Apollo space capsules.
Remember Apollo 13?

I may not live long enough to see a practical RV fuel cell.

Lots of comments on the class B forum. Hymer's new WATT fuel cell system - Class B Forums

Bottom line is wait and see. Propane has to be cracked into hydrogen and CO2 with a catalyst then the hydrogen goes to a fuel cell to make electricity and water. The catalyst that cracks the propane I'm told is very sensitive to contamination. When it fails everything fails. Everyone wants this to succeed. All my info is second hand so may not be accurate.

500 watts 24/7 silently would be a great benefit but it is too early to figure out how to integrate it into your system tho I do have some ideas.

Presently we have all the power we can use (sat TV, furnace, heated mattress pad) on a generator run of 30 minutes or less a day (90-120 amp charging rate) so we don't have much of a need but would certainly be tempted.

It would be a great benefit to those off grid campers that have to run a generator from 5PM to 10PM to watch their TV.

"...campers that have to run a generator from 5PM to 10PM..."

I, for one, would not spend any amount of time within earshot of someone like that. It's too easy to move.  >:(  Besides, there are rules that may be enforced.

As to the fuel cell issue, I won't live long enough to see that happen, particularly with Lazy Daze.   :o   8)

Thisakes no sense math and physics wise.  Not to speak of the very special propane systems not the stuff we use.
Well maybe some day but as long as gasoline and coal are the cheapest energy calories we will be stuck .......

Since my home is off grid solar with generator backup I have been watching this new technology closely. It's not cost effective yet in small scale applications but maybe in time

A few years ago I saw a hydrogen cell system for RV's in Europe.
The problem was, it used special water to put into it and it lasted not that long.
So, you had to carry gallons of the stuff to make it work longer.

Hybrid systems that make sense are worth looking into This technology is still in the DARPA. NASA stages.

Do you have a unit that is similar in size to an Onan 4000 that can power a 15,000 BTU Air Conditioner?

Joel,
No we are small 500W.
