Just an FYI August 24, 2018, 03:11:46 pm Just thought some might be interested. Couple nights ago we had torrential rains, and the swamp cooler and forward vent got swamped and leaked profusely into the coach. I had area rugs on the floor and they got SOAKED, but the COACH CARPET STAYED DRY!!! All that water and it didn’t seep through.!!!I hung the soaked rugs over the fence to dry, it only took 2 hours and they were completely dry. They came out fine, no puckers or water marks. The sizes are good for RVs, you can get a 3 rug set, delivered for under 100 bucks. They’re well made, not too ugly, don’t smell funny and can be washed with a pressure sprayer.Pix and Links belowhttps://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/rugs-usa-jewel-tone-floral-printed/Blue/200BHBZ01A-P.htmlhttps://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/rugs-usa-printed-vibrant-adileh/Multi/200BHBZ05A-P.html 2 Likes

I gotta have area rugs. Magic is a high traffic, large dog friendly, daily use bus. It serves as the "Lady Lair", the "pool house" the "art studio" and the "guest room" as well as the usual travel-camping-motorhome. The installed carpet would be an absolute disaster in very short order without some sort of protection and the most viable form of protection are area rugs. Since You and JCT are 'guys' I'll cut you some slack and explain that; finding a set of 3 matching area rugs, that are well made, can be washed with a pressure sprayer, are not outright ugly and cost under 125 bucks delivered, is a RARE and GOOD find. If they also turned out to be water repellent, rug savvy people would want to know!!It would be like, during a flood in which you lost power, you discovered your flashlight could also keep the water out of your house. You'd share that info, right? 4 Likes

It is not going well, it seems to frighten the people I speak to... very much like the propane tank refill experience.
Re: Just an FYI Reply #9 – August 30, 2018, 08:06:57 am It sounds like a relaxing drive out to Montclair, California is the best solution. Are there holes in the aluminum (other than the ones that are supposed to be there, e.g., vents, etc.)? Are you talking about doing the entire roof with EPDM sheeting? Or just slapping some "roofing goop" over the bad spots? If the roof seams need re-sealing, why not use Eternabond? Frankly, I think that the shops who are refusing to do this job are making the right decision, but YMMV. RELAXING? I would rather poke myself in the eye with a sharp stick than drive into the Inland Empire. As for driving a 27 foot motorhome into same, throwing myself in front of a speeding train would be more pleasant.Where I live,.....I think it was 3 years ago that I saw THREE cars, at the same time, on the street in front of my house. In "town", if there are more than 4 cars at an intersection at the same time, the local paper will be out to cover the event.and that is why I live here!!! 2 Likes

Re: Just an FYI Reply #14 – August 30, 2018, 12:20:10 pm "... (elastomeric roof coating) on an RV with an aluminum roof."Elastomeric is the very last thing you would want to do to a Lazy Daze roof. It would forever banish you from the Mothership ever ever doing any roof work from now until doomsday, for you or some subsequent owner. It will, as a result, lower the resale price! The reason for an aluminum roof is to provide a complete barrier to water intrusion as long as the edge seams are kept sealed properly. This system has worked just fine for the past 70 years.

The scenery might get real old, real fast.... LOL!!! There are unlimited spaces and views on my own property I haven't visited in the bus yet!! Luckily, I am surrounded by State Trust Land and Public Land, literally 100s of thousands of acres of unpopulated land that has nice flat, solid, unpaved roads meandering through it.I do have to get on this awful 2 lane highway sometimes and drive 5 to 15 miles to access those roads, but hey, no pain no gain!!Last Christmas, my neighbor and her daughter rode their horses through the streets of my 'hood singing Christmas Carols. After dark!!! They sing good too!!I hiked to this location when I filmed this, but I could also drive the bus to the base of the hill there. As for re-sale value, Magic is not now, nor will ever be, for sale!! If we don't go down together the bus is gifted, in my will, to a SAR group I worked with when I was in K9.I do want to thank you for your post in "resurrecting old garnish" about the MAXXAIR fan replacements!! I knew the leak was from degraded lapseal around the forward vent and exit hatch and not from the roof itself, however it didn't dawn on me until you mentioned it, that I could just get both vents replaced with the MAXXAIR fans ((and just add in a 'remove and re-apply the seal' on the exit hatch)) and solve the leak problem w/o a roof repair. MANY MANY THANKS for that !!!!I figure the same shops will be falling all over themselves to do the fan upgrade work. 2 Likes
Re: Just an FYI Reply #17 – August 30, 2018, 02:43:27 pm I use an angle-carpenter level..."L" bracket type, so I get a side to side as well as a back to front at each corner I test. Re: Just an FYI Reply #19 – August 31, 2018, 01:25:51 am QuoteAs for re-sale value, Magic is not now, nor will ever be, for sale!! That sounds like the drive-it-forever school of ownership. It's only a quarter century or so since Magic was at the mothership. Do the edge seals need to be renovated our just the vent openings? If the former, then the ultimate solution is a mothership repair. [If you are going to take the Titanic, you may as well go 1st class - drive it as close to there as you are comfortable and hire someone to take it the rest of the way.] A penultimate solution is eternalbond tape and you don't have to worry about a mothership visit ever again (Think Vince as the flaming sword wielding angel at the East gate of Eden - they won't work on eternal bonded roofs).I think I see the issue with the video you posted: you have become acclimated to an environment of a reasonable number of persons per square mile, whereas the Inland empire has a reasonable number of persons per square < insert: inch, foot, meter, acre>. Some see this as a problem, others, a solution.Park at an angle till the definitive fix.Joel 1 Likes

Re: Just an FYI Reply #23 – September 04, 2018, 03:22:57 pm As promised pictures of floors.Picture #1 is from the cab to the back, We believe the dark wood grain was original. There is still carpet in the cab area. The tile is in excellent condition. Picture #2 is from the back to the cab, We pulled out the back carpet and put in a piece of light colored vinyl. You have to pull or tap down the staples it only took a few minutes. Save the carpet for a pattern, cut your vinyl slightly larger and trim to fit when you get it inside. Spread vinyl adhesive and lay your vinyl. Transition strips are available at all big box home improvement stores. Just cut with a tin snip and nail down with provided nails. Picture #3 is under the dinette. We did put some carpet squares under the table because there had been carpet there over the bolts that hold up the generator. Our 4 legged friend likes to lay underneath when we eat our meals. (ever hopeful) I do keep a small rug at the top of the steps to trap more sand, it is easy to pick up and shake out. We only travel with the Lazy Daze door mat, I am not willing to use space for a larger outdoor rug. That space is occupied by my kite collection. tlbh2o 2 Likes
