Build times
Generally how long does it take to build a Lazy Daze, once the order is put in.

Also does Lazy Daze ever sell any of its floor models.

Thanks

I believe the current wait time is around 18 months from recent posts.....when we bought ours (a 2013) the wait was 9 months

It varies according to the length and when in the year it’s ordered, one to two years is normal.

LD does sell their floor models, but check with Todd to find out the specifics, particularly the timing. In the old days, there were often 3 rigs on the floor for customers to check out; now there are two at most at any one time. Occasionally, a buyer does forfeit the deposit because s/he isn't able to take delivery for some reason; AFAIK (check with LD), the in-progress rig build may then be offered to the next-on-the-list buyer. Let's just say that whatever rolls off the line either has a home or finds one before the paint cures.

Check with LD; maybe the stars will align for you. (Probably not, but maybe.  ;) )

We were offered the chance to get a floor model in mid-June 2012 while visiting the Mothership.  We sent the deposit in after getting home, and picked up our "new" 2011 LD at the end of July.  We lucked out with the timing.  Our intent was to order new, but we were going to postpone the order because the delivery date would have been in mid-winter.  I wasn't going to drive a new LD over the Rockies in February.  At that point, the offer for the floor model was made.

We signed the papers Nov. 2, 2013 for the last 31' 2013 frame.  Todd said we could expect 'mid February' but wrote Fem/Mar.
We picked it up on Feb 82, 2014 on the LD Delivery calendar which maps to April 28 on the Gregorian one.
Not a problem,  we'd rather wait for one done right.

I had heard 6 months a few years ago.  How long is the unit actually in construction phase?

I may want to change my will  ;)

Hi Hutch; If you have a mental image of huge buildings, with many motorhomes being worked on by swarms of workers, that isn't Lazy Daze. I've been back to the factory a few times, and it looks very non frenetic, to me.
We ordered our 1999 in late August from Ed. They already had the chassis in house (E350) and we picked the colors of paint and interior, and just three options. Two extra lights above the cabover bed, the backup camera, and a secondary TV outlet next to the forward closet wall. In a TKB, thats the passenger side. The rig was ready to pickup February 14, 2000 when promised.
We still really like the blue fabric on our seat cushions, but they changed it a year or so later, and I didn't like that as well. The wall paper is non descript but OK. I like the white textured wall vinyl. Not so much the more modern beige wall and ceiling treatment. The blue carpet was too light and shows dirt too easily, but I can see why LD wanted a lighter floor. I have floor runners over the carpet.  I like the wood grain plastic faux wood walls. They went lighter a few years later, and that is OK also.
Construction delays now are due to a reduced workforce, and being on the long list for chassis from Ford.     RonB

Hi Hutch.  Marie and I ordered our 2017 27' MB in August 2016 and picked it up on June 12, 2017.  It was a 10-month wait, but worth every minute.  We've been out for seven months out of the fourteen months since we picked her up at the mothership and the only thing we've had to have done (except normal oil changes and tire rotations) was tighten a loose propane line.  We've put 16,000 miles on her, and she has been wonderful.  We just finished a week at Colter Bay at Grand Tetons after a week at Fishing Bridge in Yellowstone.  We're headed back to Minneapolis to see Marie's latest granddaughter (due in the next three or four days) and then back to Florida after three and a half months on the road this trip.  Good luck with your purchase.  One thing we know: there's nothing better than our Bossa Nova.

Thanks Ron and David and others.

I guess I had better get serious if I want to use one sometime next summer.  Buying a 3-5 year old used
looks next to impossible.

You might want to call the factory to get the current timelines for the ordering processes and expected delivery times. If you haven't begun the process already, I would be surprised if a "sometime next summer" delivery ETA is in the cards.  ::)

Hutch,

I would agree with Joan on this one, as is most often the case. Within the last year or so, there has been a lag time included in the actual build time.

When my DW and I placed our order for our ‘15 RB, it was a simple matter of choosing our options and laying down the deposit. From that point (Sep. 4, 2014), we waited 14 months before our LD was rolled out the factory doors and into our loving arms.

Lately there appears to be about a six month wait list before an actual order can be placed. That being the case it appears that the actual wait time from that point is about 6-9 months (I’m approximating here) until the ordered LD is completed. This puts the final completion time from wait list to completion date at around 12-15 months.

There have been a few here who could give a better time line than mine, but I think I’m in the ballpark.

Hey, there are some things we wait for in our lives that certainly don’t equal the thrill of a new Lazy Daze. While our wait did seem to take its sweet time, I’d rather wait for an LD than buy a new SOB tomorrow. 🧐

Just sayin’

Hello!  Our acknowledgement letter was sent on December 13, 2017 - with Purchase Order #8936!  It is for our 2018   31' Twin.  We are anticipating a call in September for pickup.  I'm hoping it is indeed in September or early October for the delivery..
I'm slightly apprehensive driving in the mountains during winter.  We are from the flat Red River Valley of North Dakota.

Jay said...”Hello!  Our acknowledgement letter was sent on December 13, 2017 - with Purchase Order #8936!  It is for our 2018”.

Purchase Order #’s are an interesting thing. If Lazy Daze distributed P.O.’s for every LD purchased without regard to Model, Length etc, we would have a pretty good idea of how many LD Wonderships have been manufactured from day one.

Over the years these P.O.’s have been shared here with no difinitive answer to the question...”How many fortunate souls have received that Golden Ticket from the Mothership”. Not that it matters, I suppose. Is anyone really counting? 🧐

By the way, our P.O. # was 8865 in Sep. 2014 for our RB Wondership. There’s some math in there somewhere but first coffee.

Congratulations Jay. You and your DW are almost there. Give us a shout out when you’re down South and Harold and I will break out the coffee and donuts. If you need a place to test out your new LD for a few days, Serrano is just an hour drive from the Mothership. See you here.

Here is our ordering timeline so far:
We emailed Lazy Daze to place our order for a 31 IB on April 1, 2018. They said they would put us on the wait list to place new orders and they would call us when our turn came up. TODAY they called to see if we are still interested - We said YES! They said they are ordering the chassis for the 2019 orders and would send us our paperwork ordering packet after a while. We told them we are aiming for a delivery timeline of late June/early July 2019 since we need to drive it back home to Pennsylvania over the summer. We are both teachers and need the summer break to drive our new baby home!  They made a note of our request and we hope it will all work out! We are so excited to start our Lazy Daze adventure - and this forum has offered a wealth of information - so glad I found it!

Just picked up our 2018 24 TK a few weeks back.  Ordering process went something like this:

# April 2017 visited factory spoke with Todd and checked out the display models (24' and 31')
# Emailed Todd a couple of weeks later (End of April) to tell him to put us on the coveted list
# Received a call from Viki in early August 2017 asking if we're still interested and if we wanted the leather cab chairs (yes interested, no leather)
# Received the order packet (upholstery samples, order form, contract, deposit info, etc...) on October 25th 2017
# Mailed our order form and deposit on October 30th
# Emailed Todd in early December 2017 and received an estimated pick up date of June 2018
# Received chassis VIN confirmation in mid January 2018
# Received a revised estimate date for pick up of late June/early July in late March of 2018
# Received a revised estimate of mid July in May of 2018
# As stated picked up the new rig on July 26th.

Hi cgoochee, and welcome to the family.

We are also PA residents (near Pittsburgh), and both of our daughters are public school teachers.  So, we often take our "bigger" trips during the summer so they can go with us.  If we can help answer any questions, please feel free to contact us via the message board on this site.

Chris,

That certainly seems to be the case. With LD popularity growing along with the wait & build list, by this time next year we may see PO #’s out pace those of the recent past. However, there is no rush to the finish line and who’s counting anyway?
