I'm not pushing National General. However, from your earlier comment, I'm guessing you talked to an insurance agent instead of directly with the company.

According to their website, they still offer Replacement Cost coverage. Recreational Vehicle Insurance Quotes | RV and Motor Home Insurance Coverage...

Here is a quote from that page.

"If your RV is totaled or stolen (and not recovered) in its first five model years it will be replaced with a comparable new RV, even if you’re not the original owner. After the first five model years, you will receive your full original purchase price — not a depreciated amount — toward the purchase of the replacement RV. Replacement Cost Coverage must be purchased during the RV’s model year or within the following four years. "

If it were me I would call their 800 number and speak with someone there. I deal with them directly rather than through an agent which is what I have done with GMAC and Progressive.

Jim,

At some point, the payoff amount provided by the insurance carrier will, most likely, balance toward market value.

Who and how this depreciated value is determined may be different from one carrier to another. From what AAA said, it would appear that the payoff price they will provide seems fairly reasonable. As a matter of fact, the agent offered that I could do my own research and provide AAA with a payoff/purchase price that is satisfactory to me. That was interesting.

Honestly, I’ve spent a sack full of money on warranties of many flavors and have ended up with a box full of paper that was virtually worthless. I have another box filled with empty promises. What to do?

Accident Insurance is a critical part of automotive ownership and things can go south quickly or not at all. With many things in life, it’s dufficult to know which way to turn when choosing which direction to head. After weighing as many options as possible, a decision must be made. Right, wrong or in between it just has to be done.

My choice has been made and I am eternally grateful for everyone’s advice. I hope I made the right choice. Only time will tell.

Rebecca,

Thank you. As a matter of fact I have plans for every month till January. I book as the windows open. December will find me back at Indian Cove, howling at the moon. Unless there is none and then I’ll be gazing at the stars.

Bill,

I hear ya there. Back in the day I was shooting for 62. Things happened that made Medicare the “rainbow” at the end of my tunnel. That and some solid financial moves made 65 the “prime” number for me.

I suppose there really is no perfect age for any of us for retirement and what works for one person is not likely to work well for another.

My Aunt is 84 and still works 5 days a week. For her, retirement just isn’t something that she’s interested in pursuing. Works for her.

Best of luck with your plans.

Bill, the short answer to the 'right time' is 'yesterday'.
In his 90's George Burns said "I wake up in the morning and think 'they pay me for doing this'".  If you have that kind of a job, maybe retirement isn't for you.

I retired at 58, one month after the last mortgage check went out and we could be comfortable with the state pension.  A work environment that was changing for the worse was also a factor.  My biggest regret is that I didn't know about Lazydaze then.

I had the option of returning part time when got bored with retirement.   That event has yet to occur.

Keep figuring, and when it looks right, pull the trigger.   There are GTGs waiting out there.

Retirement is great! Plenty of LD travels planned ahead and several accomplished since retirement.

I have already booked Grants Village on Yellowstone Lake for September of ‘19. My daughter is very excited about the trip.

Okay, so retirement has been great for all of 4 months. My previous position as the lead technician for service and repair of ancillary equipment was left vacant at my departure. Hah! Not my problem.

Last week HR contacted me via email offering me a part time position to continue where I left off. Thanks but no thanks.

Since 2006 I’ve worked part time for Long Beach Unified School District. This will continue. 8 months off a year works well for me. Plenty of time to travel in the LD.

LD life has never looked so good.

Travel Ho!

RE: "HR contacted me via email offering me a part time position to continue where I left off..."  As Joni Mitchell noted in Big Yellow Taxi "...don't know what you've got 'till it's gone."  Their loss is your gain.

Thx for the update, & more happy trails in 2019.

The quote, in blue, is exactly what happened to us:  our MH was totaled during hurricane Irma last year, while stored in the Florida Keys. 32'C (not a LD).  We had the same language in our policy, and the insurance company wanted us to find a replacement because it was less than 5 years old.  We could not find one, because it had been heavily customized by the factory (Nexus).  We spent about one month negotiating, and they finally settled for an amount much higher than it would have sold for on the open market.  We were one month away from 5 years, which would have invoked the purchase price clause.  So, the amount ended up being fair, but the "purchase price after 5 years" clause was not clear to me when I purchased the coverage.
