Alice,

Oh boy, another chance to show off my adventurist family.

We have three dogs, one cat, and two Betta Fish. The dogs have traveled with us a couple of times. The cat and fish watch the house while we are out in the LD.

Two of the dogs are Multipoo’s. Brandy is brown and adorable. Yuki is white and can be very jealous of Brandy. Even a little attention toward Brandy and Yuki wants her fair share of the love.

Muppet is our Morky (Maltese/Yorky) although my sister believes she is a Papillon mix. She is sightless (Muppet not my sister) but none the less adventurous.

They all enjoy the LD lifestyle, long walks on the beach and rock climbing, although Muppet prefers ground level stumps.

These three are a handful so I can’t imagine the “joy” you have traveling with your K-9 family.

Here’s a family album from our last trip to Yosemite.

A "lurcher", Alice. First I'd ever heard of that breed. You have a hand-some collection of dogs and a hand-full as well.

Here is Jack, our 11 1/2 yr old goldendoodle.

“OH!!!!  I love me some Dobies!! Such intense dogs and so ready for anything!!“

Alice that’s our boy Bosco 4 years old.The fifth dobie I have had sence the early 80’s. Great dogs but not for everyone. All five of ours have came from people that got them as cute puppies. But couldn’t handle them when they were 10 months to a year old. These dogs have meant everything the us. So much so I got my first tattoo in memory. The wall behind the portrait has all five of the dobies names on it.

For those that might not know;

SIGHT HOUND = a dog that hunts by sight, like Greyhounds, Whippets and Borzoi.
LURCHER = A cross between a sighthound and any non-sight hound breed.
LONG DOG (LONGDOG) = a cross between two different sight hound breeds.

I hear ya. That very situation is the bane of just about every high drive, working-dog breed, that people try to keep as pets. Thank the fates for people like you.

I have only had the opportunity to interact with one Labradoodle, and that was around 1990. I really liked the friendly aware temperament and the look!!! (before sight hounds, my breed of choice was Standard Poodles).

My daughter Danielle with our then new puppy Fae.  The picture was last Thanksgiving.  The puppy was about 11 weeks old at the time.  We purchased the RV so we could travel with our dogs.  We are now down to only the Standard Poodle puppy.  Our daughter took Link our other Standard Poodle and Zelda is no longer with us.  On trips we don't leave the dogs in the RV if it is very hot.  If thy can't go with us we don't go.  If the weather is in the 30-80 the dogs stay in the back of the mid bath with the door closed.  Bowl of water in the bathroom, shades down and the bath door open to close off the back area.  By closing the shades the dogs do not have the visual stimuli that kicks off the barking.  They will be quiet as long as no one is in the campsite.
The picture was taken with a iPhone.

Good point!  I did not think of that.  That was actually a bit of cord that I use to hang bananas.  The cord at the time was attached to a carabiner that was attached to a bungie-cord.  It made a great pull toy for a young pup.  Fae has been on three camping trips in "DaVee" so far.  The next planned trip for her is this fall's Northeast Lazy Daze gathering.  This will be a longish trip of around 10 days or so.  I don't take the dogs when I do solo trips in the summer.  Those are mostly camera salaries for me.  It would not be fare to the puppy to leave her cooped up alone.

One of the venues my K9 was trained for was human remains detection and the requests for searches we got, had us traveling up and down the east coast from Maine to S.Carolina.
During those trips I would  see numerous deceased pets along the road way, but they were always with in a 4 to 6 mile span. It finally dawned on me that those spans always contained a rest stop.
Once that sunk in - (and even though my K9 had to pass stringent obedience tests monthly as part of his certification for deployment) - he was not only always on lead, but the lead was attached to my belt, when ever we used rest stops. Just to be sure.
Just a heads up.

Just read this story elsewhere ... one more thing to add to the checklist!

I'd say this couple was lucky.

Ah yes, Dobers! I've had the pleasure of being owned by one or more since I was 19, and I'm 68 now. Been a long journey, with them walking alongside me every step of the way. Now, my 'significant other"  is Junah, soon to be ten years old, end of July. For those familiar with the breed, achieving ten is a real milestone. She is, bar none, the BEST traveling dog I've ever met. She's perfect, I say in all modesty. :-)

With her by my side I travel with no fear of the unknown.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Gini Free and Junah, canine xtrodinaire "CHERRYOTTE" our litte red home on wheels "Growing old is mandatory. Growing wise is optional."

Best dogs in the world!! Those that haven't had the pleasure of being owned by a Dobie just don't know what their missing. The only downfall is the to short for me lifespan. I have been lucky and all mine have made it to the 10 year point. With my first girl making it to 14. Can't imagine life without one.
