Re: How not to Tow Reply #6 – July 13, 2018, 08:41:49 am A quick look at the boat trailer shows the duct tape was used to hold loose strap ends, and to keep a block (under load) in-place if it was no longer under load. Neither of which are inappropriate for tape. The bad stuff was no brakes, and shoring techniques that, while appropriate for use in a boatyard, are not so good for a dynamic situation like going down the road. And their "solution" of putting the whole mess up on a rollback? Equally as dumb as going out on the road with it in the first place. Did nothing for stability -- only added braking. And since it survived being flat-bedded, that shows the setup wasn't all that rickety after all... still more luck than skill, though. Safest way to get it off the road would have been to tow it with something big enough that the brakes didn't matter, and escort it so nothing would get hit if/when it falls over. At least the guy used real transport straps, instead of bungees!

Tioga George has blogged for a long time and used to have a Tioga class C, which over time had many structural problems. I believe it finally wound up in a ditch in CA after an accident.
