On this, our Nation's Birthday, how many members are flying the good old Stars and Stripes?

I do NOT have mine on display due to the fact that I have to use a ladder to mount and dismount it over the garage door.  I'm covered however by a number of small replicas donated to all the neighborhood yards by a local Real Estate person.  ;)

I spent a bit of time today dismounting the flag stand base and intend to remount it in a location where a ladder will not be needed.   ;D   8)  Happy 4th!

Happy 4th Of July Everyone

Our flag is prowdly flying.

Busy day here swapping out the Sticks & Bricks AC. Purchased a year ago and finally took the old one out. Quite a chore no wonder I waited so long.

Hope to be chillin’ soon.

Stay safe and as sane as possible. 🍺

And a special thank you to all who serve our nation in so many ways...first the active-duty & retired servicemembers, along with emergency responders (& especially those battling the wildfires in this horrendous heat to protect lives & communities); but also to the teachers who despite the financial issues are committed to preparing the next generation of citizens (even if they do it out of their own pockets), the healthcare professionals who serve in poverty-stricken areas instead of fancy *uptown* locations, the public service/municipal workers who haul off the detritus of overconsumption/keep the electricity/water/etc. working, the tradespeople who come to fix the frozen pipes & dead AC/furnace units when theat die at the most inopportune time--basically, in the words of Katherine Lee Bates in America, The Beautiful, all those "...who more than self, their country love..."

Thank you all.

(Well, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir version of America, The Beautiful was supposed to be here, but all that showed up was a bunch of YouTube code...I'll figure that copy/paste thing out one of theses days).

Happy Fourth of July,

Our flag proudly flies 365 days a year.

We replace it about every 6-8 months. We have great VFW's that retire flags as needed.  They even converted old post office drop boxes into drop off sites for flags.

Sand Castle said, "We have great VFW's that retire flags as needed."

I learned that ceremony in Girl Scouts; one of our Boy Scout troops does this for our community.

One of my great pet peeves from my Girl Scout days is negligent flag etiquette: seeing a raggedy flag, or one out after dark without a spotlight, or whipping mercilessly in blizzards or thunderstorms...  I've called our city & county offices to complain (to deaf ears) about flags out in storms...putting out a spotlight saves them the "trouble" of posting/retreating the Colors each day, but then they are clueless about bringing it inside during inclement weather.

Can someone educate me about the blue & white flags I've see a few times, with a single black stripe?  Seems odd for somebody to be creating their own version of The Stars & Stripes.  Thx.

Mine's up!

This is what I've been up to today. I'm in the second row on the far right, flag bearer for the white Coast Guard flag.

Lynne,

There are several specialty flags like the one you described. That one is to honor the fallen police officers.

Hope that helps 🇺🇸

And, in our hometown parade today, Billy Crystal, on the left, as George Washington. He’s the honorary mayor as well. — Jon, waiting for the 🎇!

Nearing sundown and mine just came down with  'to the colors' being whistled, as usual.
