1986 LD Class A Pics - LD History Album
One of the LD Faithful found an ad with the following rare pictures of a 1986 LD Class A.  I've posted here rather than in the Classified Section (original posting) to preserve these pictures in the LDO Forum.  If the Moderators are unhappy with this post, please feel free to remove it.

I might mention that it could be an interesting project to create a common Picture Folder for members to post pictures of the many models of Lazy Daze RVs using a standard naming format so that the pictures could be sorted in various orders.  For example, 1986 Class A, 2005 MB, 2005 RB,  or some other naming scheme.  For what it's worth, I'd be pleased to help if this suggestion requires additional work for others.

Good idea, Ed!

If anyone has Steve Newton's personal phone number, please give him a call. It would be great to see it on display at the factory!

Just give the Mothership a call, Steve is always there.
He may just want to forget about it and how much money they invested and lost in another one of their failed dreams.

I am not familiar with the E550?  What happened with that?

I think a LD Class A would be very cool.  I would dream up something like: styling very similar to the one above, E450 Chassis, aluminum skin, full aluminum roof, house frame strong enough to alleviate roll-over fear, no slides, mid door, leveling jacks with good travel in the front, 27' to 34', same width, fit under a 12 ft garage door, 5k tow rating, good solar and battery setup, ac/dc compressor fridge, large storage tank sizes, 1-2 roof ac with heat pump, thermostat controlled fans, 10 gal hot water tank, drop down bed over steering area, aluminum wheels, four wheel hydraulic disc brakes, abs, esc, internal tpms with heat sensors. 4x4 option.  :)

Ford discontinued manufacturing the E550, due to lack of customers.
LD built very few of them.
Same story with the P30 and Kodiak.

We actually saw one of the Kodiacs in the showroom on our first visit to the factory. It looked huge. We were still very much in the "dreaming" stage at that time.

I recall Steve Newton spending a fair amount of time with us sharing his opinions of other RV manufacturers. He had a piece of that fiberglass - foam sidewall material from a Winnebago that he handled with just the right degree of contempt.

I think that visit was also our first glimpse of the new paint scheme. Steve commented on how those crazy internet people lost their minds when the shade of paint on the lower-most side panels changeda few years previously.

He's justifiably proud of the quality of his products.

If the Moderators or someone else could help me create a LD History Album with sub-folders in the Album for each calendar year starting with the 1st year of LD production, then we could simply add pictures for each of the model years.  We might end up with 100's of LD pictures (inside and outside) contained within each model year folder.  For example, our 2009 LD MB (blue) would be in the 2009 folder along with other 2009 LD's.  Some day in the distant future, we could have pictures of LDs for most years, colors, and models.  If "someone" could also give posting & editing rights to all LDO Forum members for the LD History Album, then the distant future might not be so far away.

Since this is only a half-baked idea, perhaps others could make some implementation suggestions if this Album has merit?

What is the difference between an E-450 and an E-550?

The E-550 was a bigger brother to E-450.  It had 19.5" wheels and came in either 17,500 or 19,000 lb GVWR versions.  LD only was able to build a couple of rigs based on this chassis before Ford pulled the plug on production.  We used to run into a couple who owned one, at a Blue Grass music festival in Blythe, CA .

We found the following pictures from scans we did years ago of pictures at the LD factory.  It certainly looks to be the one class A that LD built.

Ed, jog my memory on this idea in a week or two and let's see what we can do. Send me a PM then.

Thank you Chris.  I've started to gather pictures of LDs and storing them on my computer.  I've decided the simplest method for displaying these pictures would be to have a separate folder for each year and model.  I'm naming the folders by Year, Length, and Model ... i.e. 2009 LD 27 MB, 2009 LD27 RB, etc.  The sort order should be the oldest model years first and the newest model years last.

I already have folders with LD pictures (outside & inside) for about 10 year/models and plan to add more each day.  I hope to have more than 50 folders by the time you and I visit.  As mentioned above, if LDO Forum members had the rights to upload and edit pictures into these on-line folders, we could have quite a collection within a short time. .  All this to say that I hope we can make this happen for the LDO Forum.

I like the idea of an album.  Thx to those who found the interior pix--for some reason I couldn't open the ones on the original listing.

It reminds me of my folks' mid-80s Pace Arrow, except they had twins in the back/no dinette (just swivel chairs & drop table opposite the sofa)...and fiberglass.  I am so glad I discovered the aircraft aluminum LD & the TB layout that is perfect for me, but I do love the interior shots of other models & the changes through the years...it would be fun to see the interior of some of those early pickup-based units.
