Interesting article.  I know you are on or ahead of the curve, what  have you been using?

Thanks.

Not sure that I'm ahead of the curve but I have been using full synthetic since the late 70's. At first, I used the blend recommended by Ford but decided that the amount of weight we haul around justified the full synthetic.

All the lubricants in our LD are synthetic. They are not that much more expensive anymore.

Mobil 1 5W-20 is less than $5.00 a quart at Walmart, so it isn't much more expensive than Ford's semi-synthetic 5w-20 oil.
Synthetic motor oil can be run longer than conventional oil, if needed.

Valvoline MaxLife Multi-Vehicle synthetic Automatic Transmission is $18 a gallon, at Walmart.
A total flush (20-qts) will cost right around $100.  Cheap compared to the $5000 cost of a remanufactured transmission.
This is the fluid that our transmission was filled with when rebuilt by John Wood

Never even thought of synthetic tranny fluid. Mines due for a flush after my trip to Oregon next month and I think I'll look into this. According to records on my LD the original owner didn't flush and fill until 50k the first time which is a concern of mine so a little extra pampering at this point couldn't hurt.
