Those Other Brands
They were called SOB's (Some Other Brand) back when, but it's now not PC to say that here. Besides, there are many newbies here that would not get the reference.

Considering there are so few quality RV's made, I can be generous with the label. Made in Elkhart - it gets the sobriquet.

There is an RV maker in Red Bay, Alabama that sells a lot of rigs. They aren't too bad. The selling point is if anything goes wrong, bring it back and they will fix it. You can always tell when you are getting near Red Bay, as you will see many Allego's and Phaeton's headed to the mothership.

My B-I-L likes to buy mass market rigs. They spend most of their lives in an RV repair shop, We see he bought #5, a fifth wheel made by a company owned Tiffen.

Finally, I get to the punch line. They are having an owners rally and those attending can get an all-important appointment to have what needs fixed - fixed. What a deal!

I've always been mystified by the good feeling other brand owners get when their big $ rig spends less than a month a year in the shop. We are fortunate to own a well constructed brand.

As for TOB vs SOB, either goes here and no one will be admonished by the PC police for invoking the latter.  ;)

Hmmm...maybe it should be S.O.B. like the Man from U.N.C.L.E.    Nah that’s a PITA to write that way.

The big luxury resort n factory property for those needing to get repaired always amused me. As does the marketing language about the miles of wiring and vast numbers of motors, sensors and processors built into their rigs.

The simple life of a ‘92 is for me.

I am so glad to have an LD.  We are getting ready to head out on this year's five-month adventure and since we bought Bossa Nova on June 12th, we've put 10,178 miles on her with the only thing needed -  tightening a loose propane line.  This morning I waxed the driver's side and rear; tomorrow I will finish up the passenger side and front.  Not only is she beautiful, she is the most reliable wheels I've ever owned.  We are so blessed.

So Chris has a pull-out dinette. Guess we all do. Ours has never been pulled. This cushions for the extension have been stored since 2008. If we ever sell it, we can say we have factory new seat cushions.

The rear bed has never been pulled together except for a test. So we also have a new King. The twins are well used, but it's all the way you say I guess.

Don, you and Dorothy had dinner in that pull-out dinette at Lake Abiquiu cg many moons ago. We've opened it completely about 10 times in 16 years. Nice when you need it. But in the 31', I'd get barrel chairs next time around. I miss having a chair to sit in as I don't find the couch that comfortable for long sits. For naps and sleeping, it's fine.

Who defines "Politically Correct" and "Wall Street Expectations"?

My middle name is Richard.  My parents almost made it Edward,  until the talked with a couple with the last name of Budnick.   The had named their son Simon Oliver.  This was in 1949, and almost 70 years later it would by politically ungood to mention the resulting acronym of my name.

There is a local application called Nextdoor Neighbor.  If you are unfamiliar with it, it is a local facebook analog, in which posts can be flagged as objectionable (AKA PC).  A post I made that was flagged as inappropriate was "If you pick a number between one and nine,  somebody, somewhere will be offended."
There is a limited set of TLAs (three letter acronyms N=17,576).  When I first joined this forum,  I posted the question "I see SOB mentioned, what does it mean?".  Somebody replied with "Some Other Brand".

The significant difference between ignorance and stupidity is that one of them is curable.

I challenge the arbiters of what is 'politically correct'.  If you object to this forum's use of SOB as Some Other Brand, I challenge your authority to do so.  If you assert some such authority, I accuse you of cultural appropriation of the letters S, O, and B.

I think in the case of this (and most other online forums) PC is determined by the moderators, as it should be, IMO.

Darn, here I am again hogging the thread.

We are honored to have one of the 10 you pulled out the dinette seat for. It was a good meal Pat prepared.
We always like Abiquiu.

The 31 would never be for us, but it would be nice if "our people" would follow us in one that we could use as a den with comfy chairs. Also, need people to set up a hot tub for us. Oh yeah, and a jet boat also.

A nice testament for the Lazy Daze brand, David. In general, as reported on this forum, new owners drive off the factory lot and find few problems in the next months' trial run.

The same technology that will allow autonomous cars should be available for RVs, at some point.
Heavy-duty trucking, both commercial and military, are waiting for this.
The trucking industry has a constant lack of cross country drivers and the military would prefer not to put drivers at risk or to hire them in the first place.

Yes, I find I sit in a chair much more than the sofa...and being able to drop the table gives extra floor space.

I'm glad I had the experience of my folks' Pace Arrow with twin beds (even though they had a king in the stix), because I've also realized I have a much larger rear window with the wardrobes mid-ship & there's no need for side access to an IB.

But Joan's mantra--YMMV--prevails.

Even if I'm not the  driver, with the TB & sofa, I'm thinking about adopting--or renting--a "kid" to drive if necessary...at 80+, I figure anybody under 65 could qualify as a "kid" (& have a driving record to demonstrate whether I'd trust them behind LDy Lulubelle's wheel).   It was love at first sight & I figure LDy Lulubelle & I are in this 'til death do us part, whether I'm driving or not.

Also, with all the solar panels & other boondocking accouterments, she makes a great place to stay at the farm...my 86 y/o neighbor is still running the tractor & brush hog.

Wow, I was concerned that I may be getting into RVing at too late an age (younger than 70). Never thought about "renting" a chauffeur! Would you make him wear a uniform and cap?
And you wouldn't have him just drive. Should be able to send him up and down the ladder to the roof as often as necessary. I'm kinda concerned that I can prob climb up there ok, but not be able to get back down. Suppose I can just stay in populated places where I can just yell for help.

Funny thing, Lynne, about the chauffeur.  A few years ago we were touring the Maine coast and stopped for a couple of days at an RV park on the outskirts of Freeport.  My Bro and Sis -in-laws were accompanying us in their moho.   After we arrived, in pulled a beautiful 40' diesel pusher with all sorts of slides and other bling.  A youngish 35-something was the driver.  We started to chat him up and he explained that he had just deposited the rig's owners at a hotel in the town center.   He went on to explain that he was hired by the elderly couple as their driver/cook/pet attendant/toad maintainer & driver as needed.   The rig had Pennsylvania license plates.  I seem to recall that they were home-based somewhere around Pittsburgh.  We later saw him walking the small dog on leash, and he hung a strange looking cage thing outside an opened slide window that contained a cat.  We never did see the owners, nor hear anymore about them.

David, the SoCal Caravan Club has lots of members in their 80s who drive their rigs to the outings. Until recently, we had one couple in their 90s!  We 70-odds are mere pups with, hopefully, many more miles left in us. 🤤 — Jon
