Wanted to thank Kent Heckethorn for letting me visit

Kent was busy prepping his beautiful 2015 RB, for an upcoming trip, and he invited me to come see his LD, I enjoyed seeing a RB for the first time.

I watched him dump and clean his black/grey tanks at home, and fill the water tank etc. It was very informative!

I got to hear him fire up the generator, the noise not too bad, the AC was louder than the generator, it seemed! RV folks are the friendliest, and LD Owners are the best! He made it look so “fun” maybe he will let me do it next time! #WaxOnWaxOff 🐯👍

He has lots of great ideas which I am planning to copy, and is the “King of extra accessories” ...I may need a second job to try and keep up 🤔

There’s nothing better than sharing your best toys with a friend.

Accessories are all part of the joy of owning a Lazy Daze. At least now you know what to put on your Christmas Wish List.

Today 3/30, Kristy and I got to see the shell of our 27’ MB today at the Mothership, it was interesting to see the framework, insulation,construction and care they put in to get a quality Class C. July is the expected delivery, sounds like we are having a baby lol

They only had one floor model to look at, the short LD, 24 Twin King, with blue stripes. Time to go home and make room for it, maybe have a garage sale.

We will probably be asking for suggestions to do some 1 or 2 day overnight camping in August, places that may not need advance reservations, as we don’t want to pay for advance reservations till we actually have it. Thinking Las Vegas? Quartzite?

The pictures are not my LD, just some I took on my last visit, and one I like, I probably found here, the great night shot.

Congrats, Clark! Were you able to get any photos at the Mothership?

As far as camping in August, it depends on how far you want to travel but it's way too hot in the low deserts in August so you'll need to get at elevation unless you like to sweat!

How about Great Basin National Park @ ~8,000 feet?

Thanks HiLola, I did get some pictures, but my LD was surrounded by scaffolding, and we were asked not to publicly post them, so I agreed. But if Kent invites me over again, and grills some 🥩 steaks, I might cave in lol

OMG! Don't even think about Vegas or Quartzsite during the month of August. Someone turn me over to a psychologist quick!

Think sea shore or mountains or somewhere with cooler weather!

Tiger,

That last pic you posted looks like my rig on my way to Big Bear via Lucerne Valley and a quick breakfast stop at Denny’s. My daughter was hungry and I had no desire to take the short drive up the mountains back side in the dark (or is that the front side...I’ve heard it called the Top Side as well).

I concur that Vegas in August is a definite “Hot Spot”. Even with the roof AC running all day, it is difficult to cool the coach down and you probably will want to stay inside the rig or a casino the whole time.

How about Big Bear in August? I’ll be there Aug 13-18 celebrating my 65th and my retirement. There are still some decent sites available. Check out Recreation.gov site Type in Serrano and select your dates. The available sites will come up after you click on the “available” tab. Click on the site thumbnail and it will show you a better view of the site. Here’s a link to a YouTube that shows all of Serrano’s sites. https://youtu.be/4f9eDlUVn1o

Weather is cooler than Vegas by far and only about 2 1/2 hours from Long Beach. Cancellation fees are only $10 and your senior pass gets the site for around $15.

I’m up for that BBQ too. Big Bear makes BBQ’s taste so much better.

Congratulations on your new LD. Seems like you’ve been fast tracked. You probably saw Jay’s rig on the floor while you were there. Another summer baby. Must have been a cold winter.

The Upper campground at GB is at 10,000', a wonderful place to be in the summer.
We spent two August night there a few years ago and it dropped to below freezing.
So cool. The caves are cool too.

Where ever you go in the summer, try to get up in altitude or to the coast, it's the only way to get away from the heat.
If you must camp in a hot spot, reserve a site with electrical and, a two or three hours before arriving, turn on the generator and run the rooftop A/C.
The dash A/C does not cool the rear of the coach much, if any.
It's annoying to run a generator all night, even if you are camped all by yourself.
LDs are not all that good for hot weather camping, too much glass and thin walls which do not offer much insulation.

Our summer trips are aways in the mountains or at the beach.
This summer we will be in the Sierras and along the coast of Central California and the PNW.
The desert season is almost over.

Thank you forum members for the summer camping advice, we decided to do a one night stay at the Malibu RV campground in August, and then we have a 4 night Leo Carrillo reservation in September with a big social group we belong too.

When we visited this group of friends last fall, we got the camping bug, they all go for most of the week. Lots of hiking, beach, cooking and socializing, we have many long time friends that go camping several time a year we want to join.

We will start trying to plan for camping trips in October and November soon.

Any suggestions for the Wed-Sun Thanksgiving week? Any spot we should try and reserve now?

Just be aware that the access road to the upper campground (Wheeler Peak) has a vehicle length limit of 24 feet so if your LD is longer, you will need to camp at one of the lower campgrounds. If so, and you have a toad, be sure to drive up to Wheeler Peak to check it out!

Hmmm august in Las Vegas or Quarzite will be like camping in a frying pan - very very hot. May I suggest just about any spot along 395. From Bishop to Oregon many many campsites. I'm told that the California AAA has a trip guide just of 395. It would be worth it to look into that.

I agree with others either go high or go to any large body of water during the summer season. <smile> many others are thinking that also.
