Reply #26 – September 04, 2017, 08:30:54 pm Thanks, Ken.On another note, I was using the app GasBuddy today and noticed that you can filter stations for a number of things including propane. Even if you don't filter by that when you tap on a station the window that opens shows some icons one of which is for propane if they have it.I tried applying the filter for propane and it eliminated every station in my area except one, Cenex. I have no idea if they actually fill RVs or that other stations might not actually have propane in that area but maybe it would help and it's free.Jim 1 Likes

I have a KOA booklet that lists all of their parks and services available, and I also have a Flying J booklet that also lists services etc. Both booklets are free and I can use them anywhere. We favor propane distributors because they have plenty of room compared to gas stations and convenience stores.

For someone who just needs to fill up a small BBQ tank though, a gas station or store that sells propane is sufficient as far as I'm concerned. I found it interesting that the website talks about gas stations and stores "near me" but doesn't show any.

I was Elk hunting in Colorado while camping out in a StarCraft Tent Trailer. It having been quite cold at night I ran my only bottle of LP dry, so disconnected it, placed it in my SUV and went to town.At a gas station which sold LP gas I asked to have it filled. The attendant said he could not fill it for me due to the fact that I was transporting it in an enclosed vehicle. Had it been in the open bed of a pick-up that would be okay. Go figure!I managed to get it filled at a nearby RV park but not before I set it out upon the ground where it could be refilled and then put it back in my only mode of transportation.

Not after dark though.Nobody has commented on us having it in a closed vehicle.You can pay in the tire center and avoid the lines.I am not sure all centers carry it so call first.

Reply #37 – February 05, 2018, 08:32:40 pm I read this thread as being about finding places to have the ASME tanks on the LD filled, not the portable 1 or 5-gallon tanks used by some for gas grills. I'm sure that the fill locations overlap a great deal, but I suspect that there may be quite a few places that fill portable tanks that do not fill fixed ASME tanks like those in our LDs?

Reply #40 – February 06, 2018, 10:58:59 am When RV traveling around the U.S. and western Canada in pre/'infancy' internet days (in a tent trailer, a Toyota Dolphin, and, later, the LD), I relied on local recommendations or the 'yellow pages' to find propane suppliers or (hopefully) reliable 'fill' locations; I think most travelers did the same. Once in a while, there were glitches that sent me down the road, e.g., people who had no idea how to fill a tank, or the kid who unstrapped the D.O.T. tank from the compartment (of the little Dolphin) and promptly dropped it on its head, or the guy who came out to fill with a lighted cigarette in his mouth, but most of the time, there were few issues.I still rely on local information, often more accurate and current than online resources to find a distributor/supplier, particularly a local or regional company, but also use the websites of the three largest propane suppliers, Amerigas, Suburban, and Ferrellgas (each has hundreds of locations around the country), listings on a couple of apps, and/or doing a quick search under a town name for fill locations. I fill at a supplier/distributor, primarily because, in my experience, they are far more likely (no guarantees, but the chances are better!) to have a trained, experienced, safety-conscious 'filler' than a gas station, a convenience store, a U-Haul, or even an RV park; for some of these places, the LPG fill job may fall to whoever is not doing something else at the time, trained or not! I run up and down 101 between SJ and L.A. several times per year, and often stop in Paso Robles at Delta Liquid Energy for LPG; "Oh, hey, you're back; where are you off to this trip?" The pumper is safety-savvy and experienced, and the prices are less than in San Jose. They also have a large RV parts store and do RV service. Delta Liquid Energy, Propane, Distributor, Paso Robles CAAs ever, YMMV.
