We have strep throat floating around school now 😷

Weirdest thing that I've never heard anyone else experience...'62-'64 school years (I was in 3rd & 4th; my sister two years behind).  We had repeated strep & what the family DR called "kidney infections" (UTIs ?).  DR yanked tonsils & adenoids that summer; neither my sister nor I have ever had strep or "kidney infections" since...burned in my memory was the line about "You can have all the ice cream you want"--what they didn't say was it would hurt so much to swallow your own spit that you wouldn't want any ice cream.   :P

Good luck with the crud...I remember how generous my students, & later my kids, were in sharing  :P --seems I'm much less prone to crud since my kids have sailed out to have their own lives.   :)

Just finished being sick for the entirety of 2018. It ain’t fun but you do appreciate your health more once you have it back!

I thought Valley Fever was a one and done? You get it, then develop that immunity. I was hoping so while we enjoyed it last year.
There is no immunity to VF. Once you get it you have it forever. Hopefully you have a healthy immune system  that learns how to keep the nasty fungus under control. I am one of those who's immune system is lacking when it comes to controlling fungus. I've had it since June 2000, at one point (before I knew better) the Drs told me I was cured (NOT). It came back with a vengeance. I will be taking anti-fungal drugs to the end. This is potentially a deadly disease, many people die from it. If you feel sick and are told you have pneumonia and Rxd anti-biotics and you don't get better, ask to be checked for VF. If you have more questions please do ask me.

Jerry--

Thanks for that info; something I need to be educated about, since it's not something common back here, but could be exposed to while traveling out that way; DRs back here might need some prodding to consider thinking outside the box.

Jerry, thanks for that information.  Now that we have become regular desert visitors, we better keep an eye out for any flare-ups.  We were convinced we had VF, but I now hope we were mistaken!

Yes, especially as we get older medical problems become more troublesome.  I had a simple umbilical hernia surgery back in October and as of today's visit am finally seeing some progress in the incision healing.  I've been battling this leak and a recurrent infection for 3 months now!   Hopefully will be able to do some LD'ing soon.

I can commiserate with you... over the years I've had #1 a heart stent implant, #2 not one but two stents (daisy chained) in the artery behind my left knee, and #3, most recently a stent to correct an aortic aneurism. Fortunately none of them required more than an over night stay in the hospital.   :'(

And for those of you who visit the Southwest in the winter (or at other times of the year), be aware that dogs can also get Valley Fever.  Most vets not practicing in the Southwest don't know anything about it, so your fur baby may be misdiagnosed once you leave and s/he comes down with symptoms.

Very true, Linda.  Here is a new video from Bob Wells interviewing his dog's veterinarian who talks about that very issue, among other things:

There are also 2 strains of canine influenza going around for which there are vaccines,  as I found out when I took one of the dogs to the vet.  They are recommended for dogs that are in social situations like boarding, dog parks, or other dog groupings.  Kaiser is rather one way about not recognizing Dora, Sam, & Zeke as dependents to the vaccines are out of pocket.
