Morro Bay GTG Site Question January 25, 2018, 12:40:03 pm We are planning on coming this year and looking at sites. Site 70 looked like a possibility but it notes it is for rigs up to 29'. I realize we can go back over the parking berm and the rig shouldn't be an issue. Does anyone happen to recall that site well enough to know if we can park our Subaru there as well? For what it's worth tried posting this on the Yahoo group and never saw it post.Jim

We last made it there in 2014. We went ahead and made the reservation. Looking forward to it.Jim
Re: Morro Bay GTG Site Question Reply #3 – January 25, 2018, 01:09:11 pm This is a photo of site #70 at MB; I don't think there's a problem fitting your 30' into the site, but you may not be able to squeeze the toad in far enough so it's off the road. There are vehicle parking areas in a few locations around the park, though, so if the Subaru doesn't fit in the site, that's the option.Morro Bay State Park - Campsite PhotosDo drive in with your toad attached; separating and driving in in 'two pieces' will cost an 'extra vehicle fee'. Last year, this was $10.00 per day; I can't say what it might be this year because the parks' website seems to be undergoing some changes, and the reservation pages are in their usual state. (And, the park is closed until the new water lines are in; hopefully, by the time the event is scheduled.) 2 Likes

Re: Morro Bay GTG Site Question Reply #7 – February 17, 2018, 04:20:06 am We've had a last minute change of plans and so find that we can go to the Morro Bay event after all. However, I just tried to reserve a site online and it shows that no sites are available. Does this sound right? I'll try to call tomorrow, but... sheeesh!Susie
Re: Morro Bay GTG Site Question Reply #8 – February 17, 2018, 09:08:35 am "...tried to reserve a site online and it shows that no sites are available. Does this sound right?"----MB sites may show as not available because the campground is currently closed while water lines are being replaced. The work is expected to be completed and the park scheduled to open around the first of March. It could also be that the park is fully reserved for that time, or that the reservation website is functioning as it often does, i.e., not.Calling is usually the best way to connect; please post if/when you find out anything!Joan
Re: Morro Bay GTG Site Question Reply #9 – February 17, 2018, 09:26:02 am I remember there was an issue with storm damage for last year's meet and believe there was a backup plan in case the park did not open in time. Is there a backup plan "just in case" for this year? I know the park is under a lot of pressure to get it re-opened but it is the State we're dealing with.Just sayin'Edit: FWIW, just looked on the website and do not see the closure notice any longer:Morro Bay SP
Re: Morro Bay GTG Site Question Reply #10 – February 17, 2018, 11:17:19 am The park website is not always updated, but it may have opened on February 15 as originally planned. Park personnel did work very diligently for long hours and many days to clean up and repair storm damage in 2017, so they may have stepped up again to get the water lines upgraded! Downtime means lost revenue, always a good impetus for "get 'er done"!Who knows why the reservation website shows no sites available unless the park really is fully booked. Calling the park is still the best way to verify the actual status.Joan

Re: Morro Bay GTG Site Question Reply #12 – February 17, 2018, 04:45:33 pm I just called Morro Bay SP; he recorded message says that the campground is currently closed and is expected to open in 'early March'. (The original opening date was February 15.) The park pages on the CA state parks' website are often out of date; calling the individual park is usually the only way to find out the current situation, and, even at that, one may get a recorded message, and that may or may not be accurate. Who knows? The water line work at MB may be done in time for the park to open for the LDO bash, March 8-12, or it may not; we just have to wait and see what shakes out of the sack! Those who reserved might want to have their own Plan B, particularly if they're coming from a distance. And, if the park doesn't open, I expect that "ReserveCalifornia" will issue refunds, minus the fees, of course. Joan
Re: Morro Bay GTG Site Question Reply #13 – February 17, 2018, 04:58:21 pm We are coming from the NorthWest like last year but this year have a family event north of the bay area the weekend before so we will still come to California that weekend and will re-evaluate then to see what shakes down at MB SP. My guess is like last year that they will get it done on time. I also seem to remember last year that there were spaces open even though the website indicated full. Karen~Liam 26 ~ MB SirenA 1 Likes

So much history and general information about the founding of MB.I spent over an hour last night reading it. Surprised to see the MB hook up area is 80 years old .There are stone structures throughout the area, all done by the CCC.Too bad the photos mentioned do not appear. Before the outbreak of WWII, my father and two uncles served in the CCC, with my dad being a firefighter at Mt. Re: Morro Bay GTG Site Question Reply #18 – February 19, 2018, 11:43:42 am Great link, thank you Joan. The 1928 founding of the CA State Park Commission explains why the website is so bad, perhaps? 1 Likes

Re: Morro Bay GTG Site Question Reply #20 – February 20, 2018, 06:37:32 pm Well, I made a reservation, however the only one left was for Wed night - the 7th. Now I'll try for nearby RV parks. Hopefully, we'll be able to drive in for the potluck & get togethers.I called in to make this reservation, however it turned out that the website was accurate. There is one more site - ADA - in lower area for Wed night, and the next are the following weekend. I'm guessing that there will be a slew of LazyDazers there this year. What fun!Susie

Re: Morro Bay GTG Site Question Reply #23 – February 20, 2018, 08:37:21 pm I wonder how many people you have to get the group area at Morrow Bay, it was empty last year during the GTG. Surprisingly at many state camp grounds the group sites are not much more expensive then the individual sites? Karen~Liam 26 ~ MB SirenA
Re: Morro Bay GTG Site Question Reply #24 – February 20, 2018, 08:38:58 pm In addition to the parks mentioned above, if you have access to military bases (or can get a sponsor), there is a very small RV park on Camp San Luis Obispo:U.S. Military Campgrounds and RV Parks - Camp San Luis Obispo RV Park
