I've got to ask, though, what is the purpose of those funky looking skirts I see hanging off the rear bumper on (usually older) motorhomes?

I've got to ask, though, what is the purpose of those funky looking skirts I see hanging off the rear bumper on (usually older) motorhomes? The way the shown skirt is mounted, it is designed to kick up enough gravel to destroy the toad's wind shield quickly. The skirt looks like it is supposed to knock down rocks, being thrown by the rear dual tires. By being mounted on the rear bumper, instead of being just rearward of the duals, the skirt will dip and touch the road surface, anytime the rear wheels drop into a big dip. If there are any rocks or gravel, on the road's surface, they will be kicked up and thrown back toward the tow vehicle, completely negating any of the skirt's usefulness.I have a similar skirt, rusting away out back, taken off someone's LDs, years ago.Larry 2 Likes
Re: Non-member Classified Listings - 2018 Reply #8 – January 08, 2018, 02:55:18 pm Yeah, it seems a pair of mudflaps just behind the duals would be much more effective.
Re: Non-member Classified Listings - 2018 Reply #9 – January 08, 2018, 03:12:44 pm This one is posted on RVTrader as well, with a few more pics. One pic shows them set up with a Kia Sol. 78k miles with a toad, what would you place as a fair price for this. I need a new home and looking for a nice one that is fairly turn key and boondock ready.

Re: Non-member Classified Listings - 2018 Reply #12 – January 08, 2018, 09:51:26 pm This used to be my RV before it was totaled by my insurance company after a 2,000 pound tree trunk fell on the roof during a severe wind. In addition to the damage visible in the posted picture, there was evidence of a "crushed" suspension. I was in the RV when it happened. SCARY! The damage was NOT simply cosmetic as the seller claims. I spoke with the seller by phone, to relay the extent of the damage, after a friend alerted me to his posting on eBay. The eBay auction closed without an acceptable bid. It seems that the seller is now trying his luck with RVT. 3 Likes

Other than the damage ... coach os clean. Sorry for the lose, but I heard you bought a new one.Shark Melton: Coach appears clean. On close inspection, however, the metal framings/housings of the appliances on the drivers side reveal evidence of overall frame damage/stress. The framings/housings had obviously been torqued. The insurance adjuster felt that the true extent of the damage could not be determined without removing the aluminum siding on the driver's side. I take issue with the seller's description of "cosmetic damage". I do not know if it is ethical for me to publicly post the amount it was totaled for. Suffice it to say that the amount was substantial. The rig was in great shape before the accident. Had the damage truly been cosmetic, I do not believe that it would have been totaled. We were heartbroken by the loss.Currently, we are in the market for 2013 or younger 27' Mid-bath LD. No luck so far. As a result, we have put our names on the list fat the factory for a new one. 2 Likes

Re: Non-member Classified Listings - 2018 Reply #20 – January 11, 2018, 11:02:53 pm Quote from: Duro - January 02, 2018, 10:12:31 amHeres a extremely low mileage RB in California.1999 lazy days 26ft 18k miles - rvs - by owner - vehicle automotive saleHello all ...So I went and looked at this low milage '99 RB. Blue and white classic with blue interior. Less than 20k miles and 116 hrs on the generator. Generator fired up fine when the coach engine is running, but not off the house batteries. Needs new house batteries. The coach seems to have been sitting out side since 99 for the most part. Roof needs resealing, no obvious leaks. Solar panels discolored but seem to be charging. All 5 clearance lights up front are sun baked and crumbled to nothing. Paint needs to be brought back to life on hood. Drivers door slightly scrapes the the bottom of the coach that is overhanging the cab?.. door is aligned properly, tight clearance on passenger side too. Tires are aged out. Body and paint on sides and back are pretty good. Owner damaged rear corner slightly when backing out of fenced backyard just before I got there. Not terrible, but lightly gouged through the paint and into the aluminum though, and broke off the lower clearance light. The cab HVAC works good. Sound system sucks. The coach interior is in good condition just needs a good cleaning. All the lights and fans, except the bathroom vent fan, work. Roof a/c-heat blows cold but no heat. I wasn't able to test propane appliances, no propane. Furnace and water pump cycle on and off properly. Not sure about water heater. Not there long enough to get the fridge temp down and "check" light is on. Undercarriage/suspension looks good, again less than 20k miles. If you made it through that rambling, maybe you could give me some feedback back on what you think it is worth. Owner is locked into low twenties. I would be placing all liquid assets into purchasing and moving in. I have a tire shop that would float me a set of tires but the rest would need to wait a bit, and I can't. I will be moving into what ever I purchase right away.I have even contemplated this: 1989 Lazy Daze MINI M26, LUBBOCK TX - - RVtrader.comAny feed back and info is most welcomed.Thank youShark 1 Likes
Re: Non-member Classified Listings - 2018 Reply #21 – January 12, 2018, 12:50:51 am Run, don’t walk, away. It sounds like the nose cap structure has deteriorated causing the sag that is scraping the cab doors. You didn’t mention the asking price, but, it’s too much. Check the areas below the windows in the bunk. If they are soft or out of shape there is a problem. 1 Likes

I did look in that area, but with an eye out for signs of water damage. Nothing jumped out. The passenger door had less than .25" clearance as well. Thank you for the heads up. I definitely don't need to buy a mores problems. So I guess I am still on the hunt in San Jose. Not a lot of time and not a lot of money ... The power of positive thinking is being tested. Thank you for the heads up.
Re: Non-member Classified Listings - 2018 Reply #23 – January 12, 2018, 09:32:22 am For a fixer-upper, the 30-footer Duro posted above at under $7000 would be a much better deal, if it's as good in-person as it is in the pictures. (Not always a given, as you have seen.) But the skillset and necessary parts for replacing an engine is much easier to find with acceptable quality than having coachwork done on a rotting overhang. It will still cost $, but you might come in under $10/12k if you can source the right resources. Geography may kill the practicality of it all, too.Chip 1 Likes
Re: Non-member Classified Listings - 2018 Reply #24 – January 12, 2018, 09:41:01 am Shark, you may want to start a new thread and let us know what your price range and the intended use is for a LD since this thread is meant to point out what LD's are available for purchase. BTW, I would stay away from any of the 80's models unless you are very handy and have plenty of liquid assets to throw at it. Ask me how I know!
