That's a problem with websites that are seldom if ever reviewed for dead links. It sure would be great if we had folks to do that drudgery.

A quick Google for Cardinal Paint Colors got this
Color Chart » Cardinal Paint

However, it's not clear which shade LD uses. For that information, you consult the owners manual.

If you don't have an owner's manual, post here what color rig you have and I might just go outside and get the code for your rig for you LazMatt.

I have a blue color scheme but I have the Chevy chassis. While the referenced page says the white is "Ford White" - I think that must be with respect to the Fords. By extension is the white on the Chevy LDs an equivalent Chevy color? I want to touch up some white on the body of the RV, not the van part.

I also will check the door jam for paint codes. Usually when this stuff comes up in my head the LD is in storage but right now I'm in possession!

Also - does anyone know the painting technique on the body - is it primer/base/clear or just primer/base?

Thanks.

r />Thanks.

On our 06 it is polyurethane with an added hardener. It is not base coat/clear coat. I don't know if they use a primer.

I have always thought the paint on the cab was done by Ford/Chevy and LD matches that color on their box. So the code on the door should be what you want.  I have used a rattle can of Ford White on our Ford to touch up small spots. (and the whole roof)
So if you have a small area, a rattle can may work for you.

Yes, it's a two-part poly, no clear.

The plate only gives limited info and it looks like paint codes can't be decoded from the VIN. If anyone knows any other tricks - let me know. I'm going to go to the local Auto place and compare the colors if I can.  There are two whites for that year. Mine seems to be a creamier color but I'm not very good with gradations of color - until it's applied and too late, of course!

The color charts are obsolete and worthless.
I have tried the Cardinal numbers at several professional auto paint stores without any success.
Most LDs use Ford Oxford white, as the main color. Poor quality paint, in rattle cans, is widely available.

The color stripes are not a standard paint, paint needs to be mixed to match.
Below is a posting I made a few years ago on how to accurately match the paint.
I have used this method on several LDs, with success. Do follow the safety recommendations.

Fortunately my local Auto place had several GM and Ford whites in stock. All the GM colors were too "cold" in color temperature. The closest one by far was ... Ford Wimbledon White. This is a 1996 22 ft LD on a Chevy chassis. Here's an image in sunlight and shade. If I don't find anything closer, I think this will be the winner.

Hi Larry.  That link won't work unless you were already a member of the old yahoo group apparently. I tried to access it and it told me to join the group.  I thought all of the group posts got moved to this forum, was I incorrect?

I use the old site's search engine to find things I know were published on it. It works better.
Here is a copy the message.

"Is there a green paint available for touch ups or do I need to supply a chip to get a color mixed?"

While there are some color codes available for LD paint, you probably will not find anyone that can mixed them. The odds that the paint would match are slim since your 20 year old paint has faded. Changes in air pollution laws have limited what types of paints are now available.
So here is what I use when repairing a damaged LD exterior.
http://www.spraymax.com/index.php?id=497&L=1
It is a two-part paint in a spay can. The hardener is included in a internal bag that is broken by pushing a button in the bottom of the can. After mixing, the paint can be sprayed for up to 24 hours.
Remove an exterior storage hatch and take it to an auto paint store that uses the SprayMax system. The store will custom mix the paint to match the existing color.
You may have to hunt for a auto paint dealer that uses the SprayMax system. It is not available in Los Angeles County, forcing me to go to Ventura County to buy it (Martin Paint in Simi Valley).
The paint is a two-part type that produces a finish very similar to the Factory and is very durable and easy to spray. It does require special precautions when using, primarily using a organic air filter to prevent breathing the overspray plus covering your skin to keep the overspray off. Do not use this paint without the proper filter mask.
3M Paint Project Respirator, Medium - Papr Safety Respirators - Amazon.com
The mask is useful whenever solvents are use in quantity. When Eternabonding the roof, acetone or lacquer thinner is used for the final cleaning. With the mask on, there is no smell of solvent at all. Keep the mask in a air tight bag in between uses to prolong its life.

Thanks Joan

Spraymax has changed their site.
Below is a link to their 2K clear coat. It is the same package that a paint shop uses for custom color mixes.

The stuff works great when properly prepped and the safety precaution taken.
