Can't afford an apartment in Los Angeles? Rent an RV

The number of permanent city boondockers, living in Los Angles, has noticeably increased in the last few years.
It's the same in many western cities we have visited.
Never thought there was away to make money off this sad situation.

Thanks for sharing, Larry. This and other recent articles that have been shared on LDO is a great reminder that there are many who are less fortunate than us.  The economic downturn really took it's toll on many.  As we count our blessings, let's not forget them as we head into the holiday season by giving of ourselves and our resources.

A Pink Floyd song from 1987 comes to mind:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5413ws7HxN8

On the Turning Away
Pink Floyd

On the turning away
From the pale and downtrodden
And the words they say
Which we won't understand

Don't accept that what's happening
Is just a case of others' suffering
Or you'll find that you're joining in
The turning away

It's a sin that somehow
Light is changing to shadow
And casting it's shroud
Over all we have known

Unaware how the ranks have grown
Driven on by a heart of stone
We could find that we're all alone
In the dream of the proud

On the wings of the night
As the daytime is stirring
Where the speechless unite
In a silent accord

Using words you will find are strange
And mesmerized as they light the flame
Feel the new wind of change
On the wings of the night

No more turning away
From the weak and the weary
No more turning away
From the coldness inside

Just a world that we all must share
It's not enough just to stand and stare
Is it only a dream that there'll be
No more turning away?

I think that RV fire report that someone posted of the gentleman that passed away when he tried to rescue his dogs was an "urban-boondocker" in west Los Angeles.  There is an incredible amount of old RV's parked along the roads out there, in industrial and residential areas.

Here is a fellow living in his RV while pursuing a baseball career:
Max Duval goes from SLO to Indiana to an RV chasing MLB deams | The Tribune
He must have purchase a RV shell or one that had been striped, the article says it doesn't have a propane tank or holding tanks.
The RV sure looks like a standard issue Jayco Greyhawk.
Something isn't totally right with the story.

According to this young man's blog post (and the photo), the RV does have a propane system; I expect that it also has black and grey holding tanks, and the other 'amenities' usually included in most class C rigs, but he's parked in a storage yard and may not have access to water and a dump without moving the rig, which may also be why he tried to 'T' a portable tank into the system.
