It looks like a 49, 50 or 51 Chevy with Power Glide written over the trunk chrome. Who can narrow it down?Chris
Re: Zion in the 50's Reply #3 – November 01, 2017, 11:54:41 am I think that PowerGlide transmissions came out in 1950, so the car in the photo is a least that model year. 1 Likes
Re: Zion in the 50's Reply #4 – November 01, 2017, 12:13:41 pm In 1949, my grandparents drove their brand new 1949 Silver Chevy Bustle Back from Florida to Michigan and collected my parents and me and brought us back to Florida. As a little kid, I remember nothing of the trip, only that it was hoped that moving to a warmer climate would keep me healthier than the unpleasant Michigan weather was allowing. There is a classic car restorer here in town who has an impressive fleet of cars that are just breathtaking. Here is his 1950 Bel Air. Since this bustle is still pretty prominent, it is possible that the Zion Chevy is a sleeked down 1951, but I'm no expert in these things. 1 Likes
Re: Zion in the 50's Reply #5 – November 04, 2017, 10:38:13 am Ah the chrome. Where did all the chrome go. Gawd I'm getting old. As a young one I had a 51 Ford flat head v-8 101 horsepower. Torn that puppy apart and rebuilt it to many times to count.

Talk about a breathtaking fleet of cars! Home - Automobile MuseumWe have drifted off topic here, so forgive me with one more story. My mother, having been raised in Indiana (as was I), told me the story of having a date with Gordon Buehrig, chief designer of the Duesenberg, in the early 30s (I believe) and speeding down the main drag in Indianapolis (Meridian St) at 100 mph. I met Mr. Buehrig in the late 80s at a car show in the Chicago area and related the story to him, which he remembered. Chris 1 Likes
