Life in the FasTrak Lane
Just got an unpleasant surprise in today's mail.  Apparently during our most recent visit to the Bay Area (before the fires started), we unknowingly  :-X  were in the FasTrak express lane on the 580. Received a $26 violation fee.  The good news is that for first-time violators, they will waive the fee if you sign up for a FasTrak account within 30 days of the violation (minus the $1 toll).  All in all, not a bad deal since we can use the express lanes and pay for the bridge tolls using FasTrak for our regular trips to the Bay Area. My understanding is there are also some areas in SoCal that are FasTrak.

Just wanted to pass this along to any unwary visitors to our fair state.

We've not got those in the Kansas City metro (nor HOV lanes), but I've almost found myself going astray in Denver as the traffic whizzes around me (trying to leave 3-4 carlengths in front of me in city driving is a challenge   ::) ).

Anyone know if the same FasTrak transponder can be used in Southern and Northern California?
While we don't often travel on freeways with the FasTrak lanes, we do occasionally.
Having one for use in the Bay area would be useful .

Last year we had a similar situation with the Golden Gate Bridge which you can not pay as you cross, they bill you from your license plate.  I got the bill some time later and paid it.  Karen did not realize that I paid it and signed up for the pass minus one trip instead of the fine.  Well we paid double and now have a credit next time we use the bridge for however that's good for!
PS - it is not transferable so we can only use it in the LD.

And you'll get a buck off using Fastrak on the Golden Gate!  The second column is Fastrak:

Number of Axles
2 Axles    $7.75    $6.75
3 Axles    $23.25    $20.25
4 Axles    $31.00    $27.00
5 Axles    $38.75    $33.75
6 Axles    $46.50    $40.50
7 or more Axles    $54.25    $47.25

Wonder how that works for an RV pulling a toad.
Is it 4 axles, @ $31, or 2  2-axle vehicles, @ 2 X 7.75 =  $15 .50
If a 4-axle fee, it would be worth it to uncouple the toad and have my wife drive it across.
Guess I should investigate the website.

The way I read it, a RV pulling a toad would be 4 axles.
