Paper towel holder
My dear wife wants me to install a paper towel holder (dispenser) over the sink (under the micro-wave) in our new to us 2012, 27' RB.  To do so I would need to drill two holes in the beautiful pristine Cherry cabinetry. Albeit the underside of the cabinet, but, to disturb the wood for a piece of foreign born plastic, annoys me. I am sure that there must be a much better, and less destructive way to provide a towel rack for our coach. At the moment I'm not feeling very creative and need the imaginative minds of my friends on this forem. What have Y' all done to provide the much needed paper towel, without detracting from the beauty of wooden surfaces.
I guess this would pertain to other items that require attachment, too, clocks, pictures etc. .is there a product that can be strong enough to hold items in place, yet when removed leaves no trace of being there?
Thanks in advance. Dale from Downey.

In our RB, I put my paper towels in a plastic bread box that also holds a number of other "sink" items.  It just sits behind the sink and minds its own business, and creating no holes in anything.  I keep it slid over nearest to the door when we are stopped so that interested parties may acquire units from said paper towel roll, without my assistance, by simply leaning in the doorway.

You could HD double-side tape but know it will only last two to three years before it will fail and fall off the plastic coated paneling.
No tape tape or sticky-back velcro, that I have used, is permanent.
My suggestion is to temporarily install the paper towell holder with double-sided tape and see it the location is satisfactory.
If so, then use sheet metal screws, installing them through the tape.

BTW, screw holes are part of owning an LDs. If you mess up or removed an item, the holes can be patched and painted.
It isn't the end of the world and, if done right, no one but you will know or notice.
Enjoy!

I mounted the paper towel holder on the inside of the left cabinet door beneath the sink, Dale. To do this required making a separate piece of about 1/4- thick plywood that is long enough to screw into the outer edges of the inside of the cabinet door where the frame is so the screws aren't in the thin face of the cabinet.

With that piece of wood in place you can mount the paper towel holder into that secondary wood piece with bolts and nuts that protrude to the inside so you don't have to screw anything into that thin wood piece and possible go through the cabinet face.

The trickiest part is positioning the paper towel holder to hold the towel roll in just the right spot so it doesn't bump into anything when opening and closing the door. But, there's plenty of clearance once you find that right spot. And we really like having the paper towels out of sight and not taking up any counter space. If this idea is helpful, I can take a photo.

Oh, to find the perfect spot, I used Larry's technique and taped the loaded paper towel holder on the inside of the cabinet door and kept adjusting until it was perfect. Then I marked the location and was able to make the wood piece that let me mount the paper towel holder.

Best wishes,
Jim

We found a nice looking, inexpensive teak paper towel holder on Amazon that had decent reviews.

Amazon.com: SeaTeak 62442 Wall Mount Paper Towel Holder: Clothing

When I oiled it with a 50/50 solution of teak oil and lemon oil, the resulting color is very close to that of the Lazy Daze cabinets.  I mounted it with double sided tape under the cabinet to the left of the sink in our 27MB and it looks OK and it hasn't fallen off yet.  When it comes off, I'll stick it back up.

She likes it.  Happy wife...

I prefer something a bit more portable. We’ve been using a “Paper Towel Stand” rather than mounting a holder permanently to a cabinet.

Being portable, we are able to move the stand around, take it outside to the picnic table and store away while traveling. Looks nice enough and inexpensive to boot.

Here’s a shot of what we use.

In my 98' 30ft., I mounted one on the small strip of wall next to the above-sink cabinets....lenght ways instead of width ways..works fine.

Here is an idea for a paper towel holder on the exterior of the coach which might come in handy on those windy days!

I have a new 2017 mid-bath.  I purchased a stainless steel paper towel dispenser and showed it to Vince at the factory.  I wanted to screw it under the cabinet that also holds the microwave.  My plan was to put it near the corner, towards the wall, a short distance from the pipe behind the sink.  Vince said that I may screw into wires from the microwave, and cautioned against it.  So I haven't done anything with it yet.   It seems to me that the wires would be on the other side of the cabinet--to the right of where I want to place the holder.  Has anyone placed their paper towel holder in that location?  I could put it under the other cabinet, but I want to put a fruit hammock there.

Monica

PS:  When I had my twin-king, I had a fruit hammock.  I placed the paper towels on the hammock's bar.  So the fruit hammock served two purposes:  holding fruit and also paper towels.  However, the bar wouldn't hold a full roll of paper towels because it was too thick.  So I would save the paper towel rolls from home when they were half- used and were thinner and used them in the RV.  Not the most efficient way, but I can't stand clutter and having paper towels on the counter.

I have a mid bath.  I strung a longish bungie through the paper towel role and clip one end to each handle over the dinning area.  I also string bananas from the handles with a bit of para cord.   Originally I was just looking for a place to put the bungie cord until I put it away.  I just strung it there to be out of the way.  Then I noticed it was much easier to reach the cord to open the cabinet than to reach the handle.  Especially when in front of the refrigerator or stove.  I'm 5'6" the wife is 5'1".  I put the assembly away when visitors are present.

John, you will have to post a photo of this MacGyvered setup.

I work on the pictures once back home. I was not taking them upside down or sideways. I did have a cup of coffee before leaving the house so I am thinking clearly - well as much as usual anyway.

I copied your pictures to my desktop (MacBook Pro) and opened them with Photoshop.  They came out the right way, but they are somewhat dark, so not easy to discern what is what.  I worked on them in Photoshop to make your personalizations clearer, but lost the details that are outside the windows.

I don't know if, as a moderator, I can repost these pictures for you, but in any case I would need to have your permission before doing so.

Thanks Judie,  I am home now.  The photos were taken with an iPhone 5s, and that camera is somewhat limited.   You are welcome to play with them, but I am going to download them the phone, run them through Capture NX2, then load them in a way I can explain what people are looking at.  I was mainly trying to reply to Chris' post.  Then there are two pictures of similar mods that should actually be in another thread.

Sorry everybody.  I should have just taken my time and done the job correctly the first time.

I will try again.
This is the rig for the paper towels.  I can just grab the bungie and pull to open the upper cabinet.  This makes opening and closing the cabinet much easier for my wife who is 5'1".

and a view while standing in front of the stove.  The paper towels are not so low as it would block me from seeing my wife while sitting at the table.  They are easy to reach while cooking or preparing food and do not take up any counter space.

For those of you that saw my deleted post, I also mentioned using a bungie cord for holding the dog leashes and the awning crank or handle.  A spare dog leash keeps the awning crank from rattling.  We always keep a spare leash or two at the door incase someone's dog gets loose.  Each bungie will hold one awning crank and two dog leashes.  There are two in this picture.  The shorter bungie has a tag on it, is holding the crank, a red leash and a green strap leash, the lower or rust colored bungie currently only has a leather lead on it and is pulled over to the seat.

Actually I am not a huge fan of bungie cords.  I prefer straps and rope or cord.  But for light duty and when they are not stressed I will use them.  I don't want them to pop and send one flying.

John, you inspired me to post my dirty little paper towel rack secret. It is in a camper van we are building. Surprisingly effective, the towels don’t unroll unless gently pulled. 1/8” Bungee cord is the black stuff strung between two hooks.

Interestingly, the iPhone 8 photo was taken with the phone in portrait position, so it is odd that here it is rotated counterclockwise 90°!
