Looks like they wanted a satellite receiver and air conditioning in the garage.  They almost got it.

Anything will fit in the garage if you get it going fast enough.

I think that's one of those new RV communities with small houses that you live partly in the house, and partly in the RV.

Sure hope no one was hurt or killed, that's a lot of damage.
It also shows how little structural strength the front end body of the usual Class A or DP has, many times being a plastic or fiberglass cap with little or not framing behind them. Notice how little damage the garage received.

I woud like to see what an LD would have done to the garage, in the same type of crash. It would probably have taken the door header out and much of the roof, if it didn't go under it.

Larry I got the picture off Facebook but there wasn’t a story with it. I thought the same thing about someone injured or killed. Looking at the picture I don’t see how someone could have escaped. Looking at class a’s with the huge front and side windows you know they have little structural integrity for any forward impact.

I'm thinking 'photoshoped'.   The house roof is 'seeing' very little damage.   I'm seeing the steps are still out also.   Of course I could be wrong.

Maybe that red ball that folks put in their garage was moved up a tad.

The forward support for the awning is laying on the roof.   Probably not a detail that would be in a photoshopped picture.

RE:  "which pedal is the brake - I get them confused...."

That's how my mom got the deep freeze she wanted back in '72--old chest model died & Daddy just got another (because they were cheaper), though Mother had told him she wanted an upright.  We went to my aunt's in Mesa for Christmas & the elderly neighbor who was keeping an eye on things thought he'd back the car out into the driveway to leave tracks as if someone was home.  Mother got her new upright freezer (& had a special niche built for it off the kitchen when they moved into this house in '88), which I'm still using.

One of the safety systems in the newer Subarus is the Eyesight system which is a set of stereo cameras that act as an extra set of eyes. Two of the features of Eyesight is Pre-Collision Braking and Pre-Collision Throttle Management which helps to prevent or minimize accidents like this.  I got to recently experience the Brake assist feature firsthand while driving in heavy traffic on the 580 east of Livermore. It really works!

EyeSight

Now if RV manufacturers started putting similar systems in RV's we would all be safer!

I have mixed feelings about the new 'driver assist' technologies. While it may be true that 'eye sight' and 'pre-collision throttle management' (aka, pay attention and stomp on the binders!) may help to prevent crashes, I believe that many drivers may place too much confidence in the vehicle's systems to do the driving for them, remove even more of their attention from the road, and do even more dumb things than usual, expecting the vehicle to auto-correct. These behaviors certainly happen when putting one's brain in neutral and blindly trusting to the often loopy directions of a GPS, and I don't doubt that over-dependence on the new 'crash avoidance' technologies will lead to similar results.

While I see a valid application of many new vehicle technologies, e.g., full-view back-up cameras, I also know that there are no substitutes for using appropriate care and common sense when driving any vehicle. Like most people who live and drive in super-urban traffic, I experience a broad gamut of 'stupid driver stunts' that provide almost constant opportunities to test my reflexes and make me cringe (and swear mightily!) every day; I suspect that over-reliance on 'think for me' technologies in new cars will exacerbate the situation.

YMMV.

Agreed, Joan, that depending too much on the technology could lead to issues but, then again, I've also found that the technology can help one to become a better driver.  For instance, the Lane Assist feature of Eyesight constantly reminds me to "stay in your lane, idiot!"  I find myself more aware of lane position now just to prove it wrong!  :)

My 2017 Ford F-150 pickup has similar features to the ones HiLola described. I don't view them as taking over for me, but rather as watching over my shoulder in case I screw up. I know they're not to be depended upon, any more than having air bags makes it OK to drive carelessly. But like HiLola, I've found myself driving more carefully "just to prove it wrong."

Among those I know whose cars are equipped with "Lane Assist", many have shut it off due to the annoying constant warnings.
I would imagine in a wide-body RV, such a device would be sounding continuously.

Automatic braking is a device whose time has come, I wouldn't be surprise if all cars have it as standard equipment within a few years.  I passed on getting it on our 2015 Subaru, since it was the first generation and would misread obstacles, according to  reviews in Consumer's Reports and several auto magazines.
Subaru's present, second-gen system uses cameras and appears to work a lot better.

There is no reason why RVs shouldn't have auto braking either, if the RV manufacturers and consumers demand it, the technology is already available.

Yes, I can imagine that audible warnings could get annoying. My Ford pickup has no audible warnings. Instead, it 1) turns a small dashboard indicator yellow, showing which side you're drifting toward, 2) slightly vibrates the steering wheel--the automotive equivalent of an airplane's "stick shaker" that warns of an impending stall--and 3) if the drift continues, gently steers the truck back into its lane. (The F-150's electric power steering makes this possible.)

I should add that it's easy to change lanes and make turns; the system never tries to wrestle the steering wheel away from me when I deliberately turn it.

While this system doesn't detect 100% of out-of-lane situations, at least it doesn't make me want to turn it off.

the wife's Subie has the eyesight option.  She loves it for fog and bumper to bumper traffic.  The lain assist beeps.  It beeps when a car enters the area the cameras are monitoring.  It is a subtle noise, but I don't care for it.  It is always interrupting my train of thought.  you know like what is the best line for carving through that set of curves ahead .... oh wait a minute, my mis-spent youth is trying to come out again.

My son's f-i-l just got a '17 Honda Accord Hybrid with all the technology being discussed here. The whole family is so pleased because he is a terrible driver. Lane assist and the auto braking function are perfect for him and may prevent some accidents. He's not bad enough to take his keys, but...

I think I'll just keep my older cars so I can stay in control.  Yesterday I had a truck swerve into my lane and almost hit me.  While blowing the horn I was able to avoid being hit by moving onto the shoulder and hitting the accelerator getting away from it.  If the car would have tried to keep me in the lane or have tried to slow me down I would have been hit.  The only way to avoid that accident was to quickly move over and accelerate out of his way.  Call me old school but I like to be in control.  Slowing down is not always the best way to avoid an accident.

In the case that folivier described, he would have been able to do exactly as he did, in our 2016 Outback with eyesight.  Yes, it might warn of a lane departure, but would not try to keep him in the lane.  And, he would be able to push down on the gas, as I believe he did in his example, to accelerate out of the way without the vehicle slowing up.

And to my friend John's point about the beeping, I find myself yelling "shut up" to the beeping, at times, as I dodge the potholes common in the Northeast.

Perhaps my favorite part of the system, is the adaptive cruise control which automatically slows the car, braking if necessary, if you suddenly come upon some slow moving big rigs, or someone suddenly pulls in front of you.

Lane controls do not yet benefit from a "brain' or artificial intelligence.
This is only the beginning of autonomous vehicle control.
In the future, cameras, and other sensors, will watch the total environment around the car and have the programing and a huge data base to deal with potential accidents and everyday driving conditions.
Don't worry, in the future your car (and RV) will be much smarter than any of us.

I'm thinking 'photoshoped'.  The house roof is 'seeing' very little damage.  I'm seeing the steps are still out also.  Of course I could be wrong.

By measuring the RV door and comparing it to the garage door opening, it appears the garage opening is 6 feet or less. I suspect a doctored picture.
