Alternative to cable or satellite_?
Would the ATT Mobley hotspot be a cheaper alternative to satellite dish service when campsite cable is not available? Have any of you tried it in your LD? Any other alternatives?

Depends on how much you need/want to watch. The Mobley is subject to depriortization after 22GB of data and if I recall an hour of SD quality video will use 1GB and HD up to 3GB per hour. From what I have read so far, Mobley users are not experiencing slow downs but it could happen. Of course, there is always the possibility that you will be staying somewhere that you don't have a reliable 4G signal or somewhere that the tower you're on is being heavily used.

Consider where you will be camping and watching TV.
Do you camp in areas with good cellular reception or out in the boonies, where there is a weak or non-existence signal?
There are still large areas of the county, in which we like to camp in, that have no cell coverage.
Satellite works in most areas, if the proper section of sky is visible.
Storing large amounts of video, when available, for viewing later in remote areas, is another choice for the TV addicted.
Cable isn't a consideration for RVing.

For us TV is very low on our needs list, but Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Hulu are what we watch during long winter evenings at home, so we use hundreds of Gb per month. No plan fills that need except satellite, which we refuse to consider.

Traveling gives us a big change from most home-habits. Regarding indoors entertainment, we dial up the quilting, crochet, drawing, flute playing, and in the electronic entertainment field we really increase reading on the Kindle, have many movies loaded onto a tiny hard drive (we used to carry hundreds of DVDs), and enjoy the old, basic over the air TV, that we don't get at home (we start long travel in the fall, when football season is in full swing). We get enough internet from our big cell phone plans and local wifi, so we keep a list of things we want to do online (like download some Amazon programs), that we do when we hit the local library or town hall. 

Changing how we entertain ourselves on the road makes the entertainment twice enjoyable.

I knew mine as a recorder, too, but noticed that in the West, I saw it more frequently referred to slightly differently.

Does your wife by any chance know Gail Kapusnick?  Google her for flute and other spectacular artistry.  Before retiring a couple of years ago, she was a flight controller, and you can see that specificity in everything she does.

Check out at&t combined with directvnow.

Anything your device connects to cellular directly (not teathered) playing inside the directvnow app does not count against your 22gb (what you can use before being potentially slowed down).
But you are using the small screens unless you directly connect to a larger one with USP not wifi (any wifi outside of the directvnow ap counts as data minutes).

I don't know if you can download anything from DIRECTVnow  for later playing - I have not tried that.

 You need an unlimited AT&T data plan, and the basic directvnow plan is $10 a month plus tax. It must be a personal cellular account, not a business one.    You have access to on demand shows as well as life TV but in AZ I might be getting CA live tv, as the commercials are local to Los Angeles.  Not all channels are included right now but a lot of them are and they're adding more regularly.

 We watch roughly 30 hours a month not HD and that uses roughly 40 Ish GB a month, just for TV viewing.

 Like others say, you have to have a good enough signal but we have done fine with only 1-2 bars on the phones. You can also use the  directvnow account over Wi-Fi if you get Wi-Fi signal.
