Heliotrope HPV-22B DIP switches
Does anyone know what the 4 DIP switches on the Heliotrope HPV-22B solar controller do?

Solar charging stopped working.  Mostly by luck, I found the problem was a blown 30 A ATM fuse in an inline fuse holder next to the positive terminal of one of the batteries.  The fuse is in the positive charge wire from the HPV-22B.  The fuse was not just blown, it was partly melted.  That's concerning, because the maximum solar charging current I've ever seen is 17 A.

Anyway, while troubleshooting I removed the HPV-22B from the wall and noticed the 4 DIP switches, and now I wonder what they do.

The fuse was not just blown, it was partly melted.

There is no way that any current up to the 30A that would blow the fuse would melt the plastic. The heat to do that is the result of bad electrical contact at the fuseholder, and the fuse element probably melted open if it got that hot. Replace the fuseholder with a top-quality one rated for that size fuse, when you replace the fuse.

The dip switches are used for setting the voltage at which the solar system concludes it has achieved a full charge. I once messed around with this to get a higher set point, having read online that one could get a "fuller" battery charge that way. That was true, but it came at the expense of greater battery water consumption. I went back to the setting used by the factory, which is something like 14.3 volts if I recall correctly. I don't have them now but some Googling at the time found the dip switch settings for various voltages. Personally I'd just leave them as set by LD.

Right. Most inline fuseholders are cheap crap. I recommend this Blue Sea fuseholder.

I posted on this years ago after speaking with the manufacturer.  I think that post might be in the LD Companion. It applies to the HPV-22 models, not the later -22B version. Flipping one of the dip switches (I THINK it's #2) does the same thing as the panel switch on the later -B models, and switches from the shore power mode to the boondocking mode. The latter does increase battery water consumption, so I only use it when off the grid for a while. -- Jon

Instead of using an inline fuse, I use marine circuit breakers that can be switched off.
A little more expensive and very convenient ..

Fuses or circuit breakers used for auto speaker systems are relatively cheap and available in different amp ratings.
