TV Replacement ?
Have a 2006 26.5RB with the entertainment center over-cab.

The original TV still works but it is pre-HDTV.  Has anyone found a suitable replacement that fits the existing bracket and cabinets ?  I prefer to not cut into the existing cabinets if at all possible.

Thanks, CC

This LOOKS like an HD set to me. Do you mean pre-digital tuners?  Note that if running from an inverter, modern sets are lower-powered, lighter, and the screen viewing area is most of the front of the TV. You will likely want to change the mount to avoid obscuring the screen, but should have no trouble finding a fit.

Correct, it doesn't receive the Digital Broadcast without a converter.  And the picture quality is not good on CATV when hooked up in RV parks.  Sounds great with those big speakers on the side though !

I would like to use the same mount because it lifts up, like a cabinet door, for access to the storage area.  The obscured area would be of little concern to us.

I was hoping some one had found a suitable replacement (make & model specific).  The existing TV is an odd size when compared to what I have found available in most of the big box stores.

You know, it might be worth a look behind that set to see what your options are.  It's well along the HDTV introduction timeline, but perhaps not the adoption timeline.  Sets sold in the middle of the transition often had separate NTSC (old school) and ATSC (HD) tuners.  They often had completely separate antenna inputs, also.  So there might be a second antenna input for full-HD that wasn't being used at date of manufacture.  Or, it could be set on 'cable' input, rather than 'antenna' input.  Signals come in the same wire, but the spacing/frequency layout is different.  It's a menu selection -- choose "air" or "antenna".  Cable TV systems almost all require a set-top box to receive their content, so unless the RV park has its own system head-end, you may not get anything even with a new TV.  (The set-top box is a cable box, not an over-the-air ATSC-to-NTSC converter.)  The final thing to check is if the switch on the Winegard antenna outlet is pushed in, and the amp turned on.  There should be a little light. Won't get much without that.

Of course, if it's really a 4:3 TV instead of 16:9, then a new set is in order.  Or if it's less than HD. Or if you just want a new one anyway.  Nothing wrong with that!

Can you post the model number (from the back, or maybe menu) and the mfg.?

Note that if you can receive all the CATV stations available in these parks, then they are all analog, and will look crappy on any set. New sets have QUAM tuners for digital cable, but this doesn't help analog signals. However, you might find that in many locales there are a surprising number of digital HD signals available on your antenna, with the newer sets. If your set is a 2006 HD model, it may have an HDMI input, so can give you a good picture with any HD source, such as a satellite setup, media player, or Blu-Ray player.

p.s. All new sets will attach easily to wall-mount brackets, which have standard mounting hole patterns to fit the back of the set. Such a bracket could probably easily be mounted to your current TV brackets, and thus would not show at all in the front of the TV.

Would a digital TV  to analog converter box solve the problem.  My be some one has an old one?
They were available nearly free during the conversion time.  I think i Saw one at Best Buy a year ago?  if you are lucky.

I'll post the info when I get out to take a look.  Keep the RV in storage when not in use, not readily accessible.

But I would like a new TV  :D

The problem with converter boxes obtained through the federal rebate program is that by law, they could not provide any HD output - only analog at standard definition. Therefore, although they enabled analog sets to receive TV signals, they did not allow HD monitor-only TV's to function at their best. There were converter boxes available OUTSIDE the rebate program with analog HD (component video) or digital outputs, and they may be available on Ebay or Craigslist cheap. Check carefully that they have output connections compatible with your TV. Ignore ones that have only video (yellow), audio right (red), and audio left (white) RCA-type jacks. Component video connection requires five RCA cables to interconnect, and HDMI had one digital cable, DVI has one digital video and two analog audio cables.

Tried to do some image manipulation on your pic CC, to see if TV is widescreen, but results inconclusive. You will have to visit that storage facility.

Hi CactusCrew. Your picture is fuzzy enough to conceal the 4x3 screen in the middle of two front facing speakers, one on each side. Probably done to make it look like a HD TV 16:9 ratio. I believe in 2006 LD was using Sharp Aquos. Last Christmas the local bigbox store had a 24" class Samsung at $99. It's not full HD, rather 1366x768, so just 720p resolution. It looks great to my eyes. This T24E310 ND is 22 1/8" wide, 13 3/8 tall and about 2" thick. If it will fit between your cabinets it should be fine. It is light weight, uses about 20 watts to run. I uses a small 70 watt (cheap) inverter. The speakers come out the bottom, so if it is sitting on carpet that might muffle the sound a bit. It does have a USB port, that I haven't tried yet. A reviewer on-line plugged in a 3 TB hard drive, which can hold a lot of movies, and it plays directly. No internet connectivity required. A big plus if you aren't hooked up to a private broadband network. RonB
