Hang on tight, this is a long one!

Note post #14 where my daughter, LazyBones2, has posted a photo of the old man watching the BBQ with expectation that something will happen (not).

A long standing bugaboo when trying to use our BBQ grill at the end of a 24' length of hose fed from the main LP tank on the Lazy Daze is to have very low or non-existent flame with which to cook. I've changed hoses, regulators and even grills at one time or another.

Recently I've learned that a long run of hose (for some unexplained reason) will exude an oil which will clog the hose and regulator diminishing the flame to the point of uselessness.

Has anyone else encountered this situation?   >:(

Just back from our fall trip to June Lake! Gorgeous scenery, Aspens in full color, still water in streams, brisk nighttime temps...  22° last three nights. As happened in June, we got snowed upon the last day. Did not last, gone by morning. So many deer, like hair on a dog!

Silver Lake Café still putting out those fabulous breakfasts but with a new crew. Our most favorite waitress for many years past had a falling out with the owners wife and so she is no longer employed there.

Some sort of music festival in Gull Lake over the weekend with June Lake Brewery in attendance, along with the Taco Truck, both doing a land office business. Can't say much for the music, I had to turn my hearing aids off!   ::)

Propane is made from petroleum and natural gas, it usually contains trace amounts of oil.
I have found gas regulators, used on propane and/or natural gas-powered generators, inoperative due to the build up of oil.
The oil consumes the space where the pressure-regulating diaphragm moves. As the oil ages, it gets thicker, gumming up the works even more.
The large regulators we used at LAX, for emergency generators, had oil drains, located at a low spot.
If you look at old, well used RV propane regulators, they are often coated in a brown varnish, the remains of evaporated oil.

Thanks for the confirmation of what I thought I already knew, that there was a bug associated with LP, a long run of hose driven from the high side of the LP tank.

My recent modification, i.e. a 15lb regulator at the upper leg of the 'Extend a Stay' "T", plus a permanent hose attached to the frame under the coach to the back wall of the cabinet on the passenger side, with a quick disconnect just prior to the BBQ's own regulator seems to have done what I'd hoped for. Time will tell but this past week I cooked 3 nice rib-eye steaks and a batch of bratwurst with very little effort.   ;D
