Closet Organizer - Drawer Holders
Like a good many LDOs, we have a set of plastic drawers in our closet which works good for us.  We thought about using velcro to keep the drawers in place while driving, but decided to use a piece of wire rod to tame the drawers.  They slip into the drilled holes on each drawer and locks them into place.  They pull out easily and store without the fuss of velcro.  This was DW's idea but my project.  She's pleased with the results and that's reward enough for me.

Nice! I might have to add a couple drawers in my closet.

While traveling out of state last month, I found myself wandering around a Wal-Mart Superstore. Stumbled across a fairly sturdy 2-drawer plastic file cabinet that fits perfectly in the closet. Cheap & lightweight so I grabbed it as a temporary solution until I find something more attractive. Filled bottom drawer w maps, travel books, & LD documentation. Filled the top w pantry overflow. Was hoping the weight would hold drawers in place but ended up having to loop bungee cords around top & bottom.  Rough & ready but works fine for now.

Also found a roughly 2x3 ft ottoman that opens for storage. Very light weight. Padded faux leather. Perfect for sheets & blankets. And only $35!

Don't the closed closet doors hold the drawers in?

Yes, but the closet is about 4" deeper than the file unit.  I've put the unit on rubberized shelf grip liner but I was afraid that I might hit the perfect bump/pothole while turning the right direction and the drawers might slide out & push the closet door open.  I'm probably just being a worrywort about this, but over the past several decades in various vehicles I have had to pack so that things don't slide around & get damaged... or damage us or the dogs.   :)

Those plastic drawers in the first photos are held in place with some of that extra strong Velcro.   As a matter of fact, it's a chore to get those loose which means the drawers are the last thing to slide around.

I use this sort of drawer storage as well.  I solved the "sliding out" problem by hanging a shoe holder on the door and filling it full of tee shirts, shower shoes, washcloths, as well as miscellaneous other debris.  This holds the drawers in place.  On the shelf in front of the drawers, I keep plastic bins with container lids in it to keep the bottom drawers from opening up.  I usually upend the dish drainer in front of some of the drawers, too, when we are underway.  So far there have been no escapees.

And along this same line of thinking you do not want (believe me) weak magnetic latches on a medicine cabinet door when said door opens immediately above the toilet without a lid.   :o   ;)

Great idea, Judie!  I think you suggested some time ago putting extra canned goods in bottom drawer to help anchor the unit down which gave me the idea for the file cabinet to begin with.  I found that my growing collection of maps, campground directories, RV docs, bird guides, star guides, local histories, & other such print materials I couldn't resist buying along the road are even heavier. If not for being able to purchase the bulk of my reading via kindle, the rear end of the RV would surely be sagging by now. 😅

Velcro's a good idea too. Thanks everybody.

I use one of these stacks with 3 drawers as a night table between the beds. When driving I just pick it up and turn it so the drawers face the wall or the sofa.  Love it for underwear, etc.

Most of the time. But, if the drawers come out, they can scratch the inside of the doors.

The road from US50 to Loon Lake, [the start of the Rubicon Trail] is both rough and slopes on the turns. The drawers opened and popped the closet door open and things were on the floor. Nowhere to stop, so we had to continue.

We use a bungee cord to secure the drawers. Just drill a hole in the lower and upper drawer handles for the cord.

Our night stand/coffee table is a bamboo laundry basket divided into two (2) sections which holds 3 blankets, back packets, and a few other things.  The top of the basket is a teak serving tray which holds many of our daily odds & ends.  We've attached some rubber weather stripping under the serving tray and it has never fallen off the basket.  We've enjoyed the extra storage and a place to drop the phones and other "what-nots."

Very clever, Ed.  Do you sleep in the overcab bed?  Or do the beds not move to accommodate sleep use?  When we had a [1985] TK, we slept overhead, so I don't remember the procedure to use the back sofas as even a single bed.  The mechanism was a lot different then - little legs came out somehow - and the table between the sofas was detachable.

In our current RB, the table between the front two chairs serves the same purpose as your lovely addition, and the divided tray that we keep on top is, as you say, a wonderful place to put things down - so DH can find them again!

In a further effort to remain cognizant of where an item is, I have tried putting a small set of drawers on the dinette seat next to me, which worked well, but next trip I am going with a Boss Bucket

Amazon.com: Bucket Boss 25001 Parachute Bag: PULL'R HOLDINGS: Home Improvement

with many dividers.  DH keeps a sturdy cardboard box on his side of the dinette for the same purpose, only his things tend somehow to be larger - usually associated with some chore being attended to.

I tend to be in a hurry to start preparing the next meal/snack as we walk in the door, so want to relieve my hands of whatever is in them quickly, but then be able to find the item(s) subsequently.  This has worked well.  I just drop whatever it is into the currently designated space for retrieval and proper repositioning later on.  Having just one place to look for a missing item is beneficial.

Hint:  clothing pockets are my life's blood

Hello Judie.  We're able to sleep on the coaches without removing the backrests or the laundry basket.  When it's warm, I use a double size sheet which of course folds up in a matter of seconds.  So bed-time and wake-up time is a very simple matter in our rolling home.  We leave the cabover made up as a queen bed all the time and don't even break it down while traveling.  And we don't use that area for any storage.  So when Margee or I want to read or watch a DVD late at night, one of us might sleep in the cabover and we'll close the mid-bath door.  Hope this isn't too much information!
