Natural Sightings
Thought I would start a new thread where folks can post photos and experiences of wildlife they encounter while camping or traveling, or just happen to come across.

We are blessed to live in an area of the Southern California mountains that has an abundance of critters.  I caught these guys in my yard a few moments ago so took a photo through the bathroom window.  There must be at least three dozen baby quail in this covey!

This was a few months ago in Arizona. The Coyotes were walking in front of our campsite. The Javelina were just outside our window for breakfast.

What comes around, goes around. You may lose a few Birch leaves but Mama Deer left you some fertilizer to enrich the soil (third photo).  ;D

We saw this rattlesnake while hiking in CA in March.   This is exactly why I live in Western Washington...no rattlesnakes.  😝

Here is our "runt" from the nest of three roadrunners that just fledged from our hedge.  This guy was pushed down in the nest quite a bit, and his tail was pushed up somehow, so we named him Tippy Tail.  He was the last to leave the nest, and now, even three or so weeks later, he is still hitting up the adults for food.  They mostly ignore him, but he never seems to tire of fluttering for sustenance.

Virtual hugs,

Judie

Not observed by me but by a local Facebook poster.  This is this morning down in the neighborhood close to the Fourth of July celebrations.  I think it was looking for some hotdogs!

A happy Granddaughter exploring rocks along the shoreline of Lake Ray Roberts (Texas).  She was hunting for anything that looked interesting to include heart shaped rocks.  She loves camping, all birds and animals, and "her" LD.   Her high energy and enthusiasm for life is part of my definition of "wild" life.

another from the early days with the RV.  This time from a trip to Huntington State Park SC.  Huntington Beach Camping, SC

This is a great place for birding.  There is a walkout into the freshwater impoundment as well as paths up to selected shore areas.  But most of the area is hard for people to access so the birds are on their own.

any landing you swim away from is a good landing:

"Well that's nothing... the one I caught.."

And for just a moment I thought you were in my Huntington Beach CA area....until I got to the alligator photo.

These shots were taken just last week from one of the overlooks in the Presidio, San Francisco. I walk up there nearly every afternoon with mu trusty dog, Tag.  There were about 6 breaching there just about a half mile west of the bridge in the Golden Gate strait.  I also have a video from one I saw yesterday directly under the bridge.  I'll see if I can figure out how to post that, as well.

What a lucky kid...blessings to you all in your travels, as she learns from you & you & Margie get the joy of learning with her.  The older I get the more I appreciate my grandparents & the joy I received watching my kids with my parents.   :)

On the other hand, not much out there can risk peeing in your pants on a hike as much as an entire flock of them suddenly erupting in flight from a trailside bush!
