RV Park Pedestal Wiring
Just got back from a few days in Palm Springs where we stayed at the "Happy Traveler" RV park. We had a fine stay for 3 nights, no real complaints. However, I was curious about the wiring of the power pedestal. I always use  our Progressive Industries portable EMS 30 whenever we hook up. The post had two outlets, one for 30 amp and the other for 50 amp service. There was a 30 amp breaker and a pair of linked 30 ampers that presumably fed the 50 amp outlet. I turned all off before plugging in the EMS to the 30 outlet. I then flipped the 30 amp breaker to on.  Nothing. Hmmm. I kept the EMS plugged into the 30 outlet, turned off the 30 breaker and flipped on the linked pair. Voila!  Power to the EMS and showing no fault codes. I knew that I would only get 30 amps anyway as the outlet and the plug lack the fourth leg so I wasn't concerned about "too much" power.   When I reported it to the office, The person there just acknowledged that yeah, some of the posts are that way. But I was wondering whether this setup could pose any other problem of which I am unaware?  What say you electric gurus?  -- Jon

You are brave going to the Springs this time of year. Be happy you are home, a heat wave is coming!

It wouldn't be the first time we have run into a mis-wired pedestal.
The breaker for the 30-amp plug could have burned up and they may have saved a few bucks by connecting to one of the 50-amp plug's breakers, instead of replacing it..
They wouldn't expect anyone to use both plugs, at the same time.

That's my guess.

Yes, it was 107 when we left, headed for 117 the next day!  Fortunately, unlike our maiden voyage 10 years ago, the AC worked like a champ.

This is the park where my EMS picked up a bad pedestal a year + ago.
