Lazy Daze sightings: San Elijo State Beach, Encinitas, CA
Making this Sightings post our inaugural post.

My wife (Sue) and I (Jim) fit a common profile: About to retire; not yet RVers; discovered Lazy Dazes when researching and are now waiting for a call from Todd to place an order (27 MB).

This forum has been a blessing in so many ways, foremost by virtue of the generous, light-hearted, and caring community.  Second being the variety and depth of information, presented with overall great writing.  We’re learning a ton.  Because of all of you, Sue and I will get started with a big advantage. Thank you.

The photos were both taken this morning, Memorial Day, at San Elijo State Beach, Encinitas, CA.  The gray, Fly Navy, rig pulled in in front of us on Coast Highway at the part of the beach known as George’s.  The brown rig was in the south San Elijo State Beach parking lot that locals call Seaside Reef.  I’m not equipped to guess at the models or years.

The first photo, LD at Seaside, is a 1983, or older, Multi-plan.
The next photo is a 1984 Multi-plan, or a little newer, that is missing its fiberglass spare tire cover.
In 1984 the dark anodized windows, along with the spare tire cover, first appeared.

Hey! I just joined this forum moments ago, and saw your post. I live just up the hill in Cardiff!

I purchased a 19-1/2' 1979 LD from a friend. It's sitting up in Idyllwild. Fingers crossed that it runs. Will head up tomorrow to have a closer look.

Welcome to the group!

As Larry pointed out neither of these rigs are what can be called 'new' or 'recent'.  ;)

Now here's your first lesson in Lazy Daze... while the first rig (tan & white) is in quite good condition for it's age you will note that the 2nd one (gray) is not so! Take a look at the vertical "end caps" (the cover that seals the side and rear sections of the coach. Those of the gray rig are in extremely poor condition and are potential spots for water intrusion and wood rot.  :o

Well, that would be one of the oldest LDs on the forum.
It will be interesting to see how well a 38 year old LD is holding up.
If it runs, do have a mechanic go through the brakes before attempting to take it down the mountain.
Theres no easy way down from Idyllwild.

Jim & Sue,

Welcome to the forum and thanks for sharing the photos. I especially like the custom Navy paint job- very cool!  We look forward to hearing about your future LD adventures so keep us updated on the order process and subsequent acquisition of your new baby!

My Mom and I lived in Cardiff for a year or so back in the early 70's when my dad was stationed in Vietnam. We were a couple of blocks from the state beach.  A wonderful area to live in! I still remember lugging one of those 10' surfboards across the coast highway and down to the beach. Not easy to do when you're a young teenager!

First, an overdue thank you for your warm welcomes.

Here is a follow up sighting.

Caught this 2011 27 MB at El Chorro County Park, San Luis Obispo, CA, and then again (same coach) at George’s on Coast Highway, Cardiff by the Sea.  It was an easy catch because the coach is Sue’s and mine!  It became ours with alarming speed.  Some will recognize this as the coach from Yuma that was purchased by a forum member who subsequently found a dream retirement home, deciding that it was best to resell the coach, listing it here in the LDO Classifieds.  Sue and I went to see it because it was nearby.  Right away we knew it was perfect.  Twenty-four hours later it was cooling its tires in front of our house.  It’s in beautiful condition, a testament to the original owners and, of course, LD design and build quality.  In a fit of bravado (some will think “stupidity,” and I won’t disagree), within a week we drove it 1000 miles to the Bay area and back.  The coach performed perfectly.  Sue and I learned A TON.  We’re thrilled to have it and to be at the beginning of this new journey.

Congrats!  Kinda like when we went to Denver to see what would become our '04 MB.  Had a friend who was nearby look at it and told us we better come quick.  Drove over and bought it the day we saw it.  First trip was 850 miles across the mountains to Utah.  Then a couple weeks later drove 1600 miles back to Louisiana with no problems.

Ah, I was wondering who bought Susan's coach.  Nice to have your maiden voyage in the books!

Congrats and enjoy!
