QuickVu BackUp Camera
QuickVu™ Wireless Backup Cameras | The world's easiest to install backup cameras

This backup camera was written up in the Monday Tech section of the Denver Post. It looks quite interesting and with a reasonable price. Anyone familiar with it? I would like one for my LD but don't want to wire it or spend a fortune. I have not studied the website yet.

If you mount this on the license plate, it will be off-center, and subject to collecting road splatter. If the protective cover is plastic, don't expect it to remain optically viable for very long. As far as wireless, I used something similar for years, mounted high inside the rear window, centered. Reflections or a dirty window impaired it utility, and the signal was subject to considerable interference at times.

Wanting a backup camera for my Subaru while carrying my e-bike, I did some research.  I went with a Garmin BC-30 camera and a compatible Garmin GPS.  The camera gets wired to the backup lights for power.  When the lights come on, it sends a bluetooth signal to the GPS which automatically shifts from map to camera.  It might be worth checking that out, as you could mount the camera just below the window looking down, or on the faux spare tire cover, with a wire going over to one of the backup lights.  There is a sender unit that would have to be tucked away, but that could go inside the faux spare tire cover.

You will want to position the camera fairly high so that the field of view is down.  The higher you mount it, the farther back you will be able to see.  LD puts theirs at the top of the window.

I don't know if this is helpful, but it worked for me with no need to do any drilling on the Subaru.  Were I to mount it on my MB LD, I think I would look for a way to get power from a backup light, inside, then up to the overhead rear cabinet, then go through the wall to the camera.  That would put the camera high and looking down, with the sending unit inside under the rear overhead cabinet floor.  I would get the biggest compatible GPS I could.  My 5" screen in the Forester is too small, but I was space-constrained.

Ideally, I like a high mounted camera that gives a good view of the toad's tow bar plus the rear of the toad, useful when passing.
Because you tow, mounting it low on your LD will not provide as much useful information as it would on a car's license plate.

Since the camera is wireless, I would experiment with the placement by ducting tape it in several positions and then taking test drives or do it out in the street where you have a long view to the rear, with out having to move.

One last thing, $250 is a lot of money for wireless back up camera system, it had better have an image equal to a good wired system, not the poor image a lot of cheap wireless backup cameras have.
A 4.3" screen isn't that big, are any bigger screens available?
