Lazy Daze wax job follow up
About 7 months ago there was a discussion on the merits of various waxes.  I had just "waxed" ours using Zaino, a multiple part process- wash, clay bar, polish, sealant.  It is like the orange bottle NuFinish stuff on steroids, due to the meticulous preparation.

Well, we just returned home, after 6 months around the country, 16,500 miles and two washes.  After a good scrub, water still beads up- barely.  I would say it is time to wax on- wax off.  But I am also very well satisfied with the protection. The finish still feels quite smooth.

Not bad for a 1992 paint job! Thanks Lazy Daze!

That's a beauty. How long does the whole process take?

Wow looks amazing. Was one kit from Zaino have enough product to do the whole thing?

One kit from Zaino has done an f350 duallie with cap 2x,  a small SUV, and the LD once- it is 2/3 depleted.

I did the Lazy Daze over a few days period, working till my arms were tired.  One step, the polish, done by machine. There were wait times between steps for rest, darkness, other jobs. I would estimate 20-30 hours of labor.  The longest and most impactful step is the clay bar.  Now that the paint as been brought back to a good condition, I will skip the polish step.  Wash, Clay bar, All in One sealant. For that I will plan 12 hours.

It's an act of love and remembrance. My father taught us all to wax on wax off with Blue Coral, a two step process. My first "job" was a '62 Mercury wagon.

Sounds like lots of work Paul. But the results show it was worth it. I have clay bared a couple cars and I was amazed at the results.

Looks great Paul.  I have a 2010 and started when it was new to wax regularly using a polymer wax. It's got a good base now so wax on wax off takes no time at all after a wash. I use Mcguirers (spelling?). And about 3-4 hrs. Wash is fast and use squeegee for excess water so getting what's left with a towel is fast then if my arms and ambition hold up I do a quick wax. But having the base established was the important part. Getting that accomplished took a LONG time.

Hi, I'VE also been trying to build up a good wax coating on the silver fox, our 2015 mb. I'VE been using the wax we got from the mother ship. Have you found a wax which you especially like? Thanks for your thoughts.

Paul,

You've done a great job bringing your rig back to a beautiful shine. Lots of work I can imagine. I've clay barred my Sedan before and that takes about three hours.

I've just finished "waxing" half of our '15 27' RB. It's been about a year since the first wax on wax off, but that's what Nu Finish says its good for.

I have washed the rig several times over the past year and a half and Nu Finish has kept the coach's shine just fine.

I had washed the rig the other day so today I just used my California Duster to knock down the dust. The rest was easy. I grabbed my bottle of Nu Finish and went to work.

Nu Finish is amazing stuff. Easy on and easier off. The LD shines like a new penny. Here are a couple of pics from today's effort.

Very nice wax job Kent!  It looks beautiful.

Do you re-wax your rig a second time within 30 days as the Nu Finish recommends?  Is this important?

When we picked up our unit in 2015 MS told us to wait 3 months and then wax it 4 times in the next year with Nu Finish. I usually wax rig over 3 sessions to protect the shoulders. Rig looks great and minimal time invested. Now waxing fall and spring.
Does anyone have an easy way to access the Nose over cab. I have reverted to propping up hood with a 2x4 and then standing on it with soft sole shoes. Wax engine hood last to prevent U-tube moment.

Harold,

I might have gone over it twice the last time for Maximum Protection as recommended ..hmmm. (I added a YouTube video from Nu Funish and the guy doesn't mention a second 30 day coat) Let me think about that one. Its really not difficult, it's more of a time management thing. Time for coffee...time for a bike ride...time for a nap. 😁

Thomas,

I don't recall the 4x wax chat with Todd. I do recall the "wait 30 days" talk. I suppose using the rig as often as I do, polishing the coach is hard to do on the road. Twice a year is doable. Spring and Fall works for me.

The nose cone (top and bottom) is the hardest part to do. The top section will find me on my belly reaching as far as I can...The underside is a real stretch. Kinda difficult working upside down.

I'm open to suggestions for the nose cone as well. I suppose an extendable pole would help... I have considered some scaffolding as another LDO member has done. Just not a lot of room in my driveway.

Why, use nose wax, of course!  :D

One foot on the step ladder and one foot on a non-slip towel/rag (slightly damp) on the hood. This gets the middle of the cabover. Each time I do it I say to myself, "Self, you are being totally stupid!" As for the undercab, it's never been waxed and looks just fine after 15 years.

This system would certainly simplify the polishing routine. Like Wash Wax, Nu Finish is not a wax. Also, I have been using a waterless spray from Mothers in conjunction with my California Duster on my car and LD for quite some time. Saves a ton of water.

The Wash Wax Mop Kit looks like a winner and would appear to be comparable with the current Nu Finish product. However, it's difficult to imagine getting a significant amount of "wax" polymer on the rig to protect the paint.

Found this RV review-for-mercial on YouTube. The extendable Mop Handle is pretty sweet.

Almost sounds to good to be true although Jim and Gayle appear pleased with the product. UV protection is a pretty good selling point as well.

I'm on the fence but I am impressed with its ease of use.

We probably have used Nu Finish for over 20 years. I know we started when it first got good reviews in Consumer Reports. I didn't watch the video but the guy on the left is who we bought it from in Quartzsite. We also know of a few other people who use it as well.

Nothing short of keeping it garaged is going to stop paint fading and we have noticed no increase in that since switching. We still get comments from people who can't believe how good the finish looks. So, it looks good from a distance, kind of like me (at least that's what Gayle tells me). On closer inspection you detect the fading and imperfections. It appears to repel rain just like other polymer products we have used, no more or less. The biggest plus, according to Gayle, is the ease of application. I do use the pole with a brush to sweep lake newton off the roof when necessary.

Nope, we don't sell it and have no financial interest in it.

This is the main website. Didn't take a real look at it so don't know if you learn much more there or not.

Considering how much Nu Finish is wiped off after it hazes it may well be that Wash Wax leaves a proportionate amount of polymer behind.

I'm hoping I don't get any guff from my local Permit Gods when I try to hang my Shade Sails over the LD in my driveway. With that and a good coat of polymer, I hope the LD paint lasts at least 10-15 years without fading.

Thanks,

I've been using a polymer polish Finish First for years.  It is the easiest polish to use.  Apply to the paint, let sit for up to 24 hours and wipe off.  The longer it is left on the better the finish. No rubbing or scrubbing. Works best on new paint rather than oxidized paint. Only problem is you can't get it at stores, only online.

Another +1 for Wash and Wax.  The telescoping handle is a very nice bit of kit.  I am 5'6" (on a good day) and have no problem doing the area above the cab.  The handle is very strong.  The tan cleaner solution does away with black streets in a dash.  I tend to wash the RV first but have done a "dry cleaning" with just the kit.  The bug pad is ok for the Lazy Daze's paint but do not use it on a car with clear coat. (ask me how I know).   The wax does not last as long as some products but it is super easy to apply.

The last time I was at the factory (February 2016), I  believe they were still recommending and selling Finish Kare Ultra Polymer Sealant. I have used Finish Kare on our LD once a year since 2011 with good results.  Is the factory now recommending Nu Finish instead of Finish Kare?

Paul,

After rereading the LD Manual for exterior paint care, I see that it recommends "Ultra Poly Wipe" which is stated as being a Polymer Sealant.

When we took delivery of our LD, Todd was comfortable with my choice of Meguiars Car Care products. However, after following the recommendations of Nu Finish by some the forum members due to its ease of use and reliability, I have stayed with it instead.

The instructions for Ultra Poly Wipe seems like a much more labor intensive project. And to perform that task four times a year, although a great idea, I'm afraid I just don't have the facilities to accommodate the products instructions.

Nu Finush is much easier and can be accomplished in direct sunlight. Works for me.

Next time I may give Wash Wax a shot and service the LD's paint 5 times a year.
That way I'll have more time to take a nap in the shade.
