Water pump help April 16, 2017, 08:32:31 pm First day on the road and when we stop the fresh water pump won't work. Fuse is good and it worked this morning at home. It's a Shurflo whisper king. What's the best replacement for this pump?
Re: Water pump help Reply #1 – April 16, 2017, 08:44:56 pm This is the link to the Shurflo Pump Conversion chart:http://shurflo.com/images/files/Pump_Conversion_Chart/RV-Pump-Conversion-Chart.pdfI currently have the second Whisper King in my 2003, but carry this replacement as a spare; according to the chart (and to the tech person I spoke with) the 2.3 GPM pump is the recommended replacement for the 2.0 GPM Whisper King. 4028-100-E54 REVOLUTION™ 2.3, 12V 2.3G, AFTThere is a 3.0 GPM pump in the 4008 series; some may prefer this pump to the recommended model, but I went with the manufacturer's recommendation.As ever, YMMV. 1 Likes

By chance did any of the 12V connections come loose? Wish you the best getting this replaced or fixed.
Re: Water pump help Reply #4 – April 16, 2017, 09:41:32 pm Nope no hum no sounds and with your hand on it you can't feel anything when the switch is turned on. I checked the connections and they seem good. Wiggled them around with the power on to see if the pump would go but nothing.
Re: Water pump help Reply #5 – April 16, 2017, 10:24:21 pm If you install a new water pump, I'd like to ask if you had enough room to remove and install the pumps through that access door below the sink cabinet. I have poor flexibility and even winterizing the water pump is a challenge for me as a result. I've laid on the floor like a pretzel and tried to imagine how I could replace that water pump. Haven't figure it out as yet.I understand that a few LDO's have moved the water pump into the bathroom cabinet for better access, which is what we may have to do. Re: Water pump help Reply #6 – April 16, 2017, 10:58:50 pm I've come across many glass mini fuses that looked fine upon initial inspection. Went on to trouble shoot other possible reasons for a machines "non-responsiveness" and when nothing became immediately apparent I would often simply replace the glass fuse. As it happens, that would often solve the problem and off I'd go onto the next project. Fuses are rather inexpensive and if it doesn't work you've still got two good fuses and have eliminated a possible cause.Just sayin'Kent

Bought a brand new tool set just for the motorhome and forgot to transfer my electrical kit. The wife just wants to stop at an rv repair and have it checked out.

In my opinion you are creating a new trouble point. I'd much rather find an exposed terminal at which to make my test. Or even cut and splice if it comes to that! 2 Likes
Re: Water pump help Reply #15 – April 17, 2017, 11:23:39 am I hear you, and to each his own.At the voltage levels, insulation types and environments seen in motorhomes, I'm comfortable with the insulation self-healing. (Aided by the very small piercing pin size.) I think Fluke and others wouldn't sell them if there were big red flags concerning their use.I'd be less likely to use them under the vehicle on OEM wiring. But any water intrusion would be a literal drop in the bucket compared to the shoddy wiring of, for example, the electric step on the LD. Wires flying about un-supported, non-sealing butt connectors, etc. I'm amazed it still works. When I finish up my frame/hitch project, I'm going to attack that (plus the exposed plywood edge) next before I re-install gray water tank...(And by the way, the drag & drop photo posting with auto-resizing is quite spiffy. Re: Water pump help Reply #18 – April 17, 2017, 05:04:05 pm Even a cheap multi-meter would work here. Sure better than replacing then finding out the pump was fine.I keep a VOM in the rig. I test most systems a few days before I leave since I don't know how to fix everything on the road. 2 Likes
Re: Water pump help Reply #19 – April 17, 2017, 05:56:29 pm Ok all fixed😃. The wife made a half dozen calls to rv service shops along our route. Everyone of them said it would be a week to ten days to look at it. I found a rv dealer close to the rv park we spent the night at. They only deal with trailers but I thought what the heck it's the same pump. So we were at their door when they opened. They said they were busy but wouldn't leave us in a predicament. The guy checked out the power and yes the pump was shot. He said it looked to be the original one. Anyway took a half hour to check it and remove and replace it. He recommended a Flowjet pump 2.9 gpm. So that's what we got. He even refilled our water tank. Total bill for pump, labor and a new water pressure regulator for our city water hookup was $170. The guys were a real pleasure to do business with. And they were checking out the LD as they hadn't seen one before. 1 Likes
Re: Water pump help Reply #20 – April 17, 2017, 06:18:16 pm Great news on your new pump.Our RB is a year and a half new, but to be on the safe side I ordered the 4028-100-E54 Revolution that Joan mentioned.I did call the manufacturer to see if I needed additional parts (brackets etc.) and I was assured it was a simple (😳) Plug-N-Play part.Congradulations on the cost too. Sounds like a good deal all around.Kent

I also was under the impression that all pertinent parts were included. NOT!Who knows, you may get lucky but I had to search around and finally found the 'elbow' I needed for my particular plumbing configuration. West Marine to the rescue!

I figure I can get a spare cheaper online once I get home. And the tech said the only time he had to replace one of these that failed. Was do to it freezing.
