Bathroom sink/black tank
On a Facebook RV related forum, it was mentioned that on all RV's - the bathroom sink drains into the black tank vs the grey tank.  They claim they are all plumbed this way, as most do not add enough water to their black tanks. Is this true?

They suggested one can identify this when the tank is empty, that one turn on the bathroom faucets, that one will hear the water draining.  I can not, presently, test this theory - can you?

Maybe "all RVs" drain their sinks into the black tank but not any year Lazy Daze I have ever looked at.
And I have looked at a few.
The toilet is all that drains into the black tank.

Melinda,

If it were true that all other bathroom sinks drain into the black tank, I pitty the SOB owner who is brushing their teeth or washing their hands in the aromatic aftermath of a black tank wafting episode.

If this were the case, I would wonder if the AQMD wouldn't step in and shut the whole place down.

Just sayin'

P.S. After posting this response I took a look at RV.net and indeed it appears this is not an all too uncommon feature or ad hock tank modification. Still seems strange to me.

My 2005 Jayco Greyhawk black tank has only the toilet plumbed to it; ditto for my previous 1998 Georgie Boy Class C. I have never heard this sink to black tank claim before this.

My '88 MB toilet is the only connection to the black tank. I can see it all the way from the water pump access door.
My 1991 Coachman van tanks have a shared vent, but the tanks are otherwise separated as expected.

There might be *some* RVs that are plumbed this way, but we've never had one.

Although the sink trap should keep these fumes at bay, driving bumpy roads could disturb that precious seal. I would classify the original quote as a good example of 'fake news'. This has been an internet issue since its inception, and an excellent reason to do one's own research to the truth - if one cared...

Thanks everyone for your responses. Its nice to know I was correct, but there are alot of people out there that believe this, as Steve says "fake news".   And yes, before I asked the question here, I had also checked RV.net.  Thanks again.

Many RVs were plumbed that way, our first one was (79 American Clipper), not because the black tank needed water, but for convenience of plumbing. It was much easier/cheaper to plumb the bathroom sink to the black tank because it was there.

If you look at an RB you will see that extra effort had to be made to get the sink drain to the gray tank.

It sounds to me like it may have been done on a few RVs just because it was more convenient.   I read about one RV that had just one grey/black tank.  Seams to make some sense, it generally all gets dumped in the same place.  But I have had grey water come up through my shower drain a couple times....

Quick fix for that - before driving, screw the stopper down tight. Since that may be tough to remember, we do it as a matter of course after cleaning the shower stall after showers.

Steve,

What "stopper" on your shower drain?

"What "stopper" on your shower drain?"

The same black screw-down stopper that you have on your kitchen sink. Unless you lost it.  ;)

I haven't checked Amazon yet but you might want to take a look at this link...

All you need is the 'basket' portion of what's advertised, not the whole unit.

Thank you so much! That dizzying assortment, coupled with not really knowing the correct search terms was what sort of defeated my attempt.  <3
