And most folks aim the camera downward so that the top of the spare tire bulge is just visible at the bottom of the monitor screen. The key is not to think of it as a substitute rear-view mirror. Instead, its purpose is to show you how close your rear bumper is to whatever's behind you... and if you have a towed car or trailer, to keep an eye on the tow gear.
