Mimi,

So I take it then that you didn't stop by the Pasty Pie Shop around the corner before you headed out of Los Al? Lol

Have fun with your LD. Our dogs are always anxious to climb aboard too. We are hoping to get all 3 on their maiden voyage this summer to Big Bear.

Yippee, you've done very well.

Just as a data point, I have a Suburban with a 6-liter engine.  Smelled antifreeze for half a year, but barely any drop in level.  Held off because I needed the truck quite often that winter, but could spare it in the spring.  Wasn't looking forward to the whole dash tear-out for heater core replacement.  Turned out to be water pump, not heater core.  So, you might get lucky, even if you can smell the AF.

Chip
Thanks Chip.  I just dropped it off at the mechanic and asked him to call me about the smell.  I'm hoping it's a crack in a hose and nothing more, though the symptoms sound the same.  Thanks for the head's up.:-)

Your welcome Mimi!! I am just so happy it turned out to be a nice one. I really hope you enjoy it.
Oh my gosh, it's beautiful!:-):-)   One of the mechanics was still at the shop when I dropped it off just a little bit ago and even he said it was very clean and in great shape. He climbed on the roof and told me where to put the solar panels.  He loved it!  Honestly, with only 48k miles, it is soo clean!  It doesn't look like the oven or range was ever used.  The microwave definitely was never used. The couches and carpet are both original and look clean, though I will be replacing the carpeting and getting some good covers for the couches. The fridge is pristine.  I tested it for a longer period of time than I could when I bought it, and it runs great. I need to get LED replacement bulbs for all the lights asap.  I hope I can  find the ones I need.  There is a CB radio in it and it works!  It was installed at the factory. I really like that I can reach someone if I need help when I don't have cell service.

My pooch and I have slept in it for two nights now.  I covered the sofa's with bed sheets and hit the hay!  It was very comfortable.  My Lucy pooch passed out and then me.:-) Really kind of odd though, going from a 2200 sq ft house to my little LD, but you know what makes it so workable?  I love this rig.  I love LD.  I never saw another rig I felt more comfortable in. I knew I wanted a LD the minute I saw one and found this forum. For a shorty, there is a ton of room and a lot of storage space. I know it's slow, but I'm not planning on being in a hurry anyway.

I just can't thank you enough.  I was desperate.   My house sold, I cleared it out and Lucy and I have been staying with two of my neighbors. I just didn't know what I would do if I couldn't find my LD.  I have a Staffordshire Terrier.  The bunny rabbit of all dogs.  She's my third Staffie rescue out of LA.  People think Staffies are mean.  I don't get it.  Anyway, no one would rent to me.  Extended stay didn't want Lucy either.  So Duro, you saved me and my Lucy because, if they don't want Lucy, they don't get me either.:-)  Thank you so, so much.  I just can't say it enough.:-)

Congratulations!  Of course a decent LD comes up in my area after I drove 400 miles to find mine :)  Another shorty too! Looks awesome, I'm glad you found your rig.
Hey, your rig is gorgeous!  Congrats!  I missed one that went up for sale 2 miles from me.  Someone from Oregon bought it sight unseen the day after the ad ran.  I was too scared to do that, so just hoped one would appear, and it did!  Thanks Duro!

congratulations Mimi!
Thanks Paul!  I certainly kept you busy learning about LD's! All that patience and advice paid off!  I knew where to look, where to "knock on wood", what to smell for, etc. because of you, Traxless, Chris, just everyone who labored through my redundant, remedial and unrelenting questions. I appreciate your patience and I'm happy to say, your effort was not wasted.:-)

Thanks!

Years ago, in the days before blogs were common  :o , I used to have a RVing website. One of the pages was a list of "Road Songs" and that was one of them. Might be fun to start a thread on LDO of everyone's favorite road songs! That's LD related, right?  :)
What happened to your website?  I think a thread of road songs is a wonderful idea!  Why don't you start it?  I'd love to see what other folks listen to on the road.   Here are 3 of my favorites:  As you know, Born to be Wild (Steppenwolf) then, Ticket to Ride and Drive My Car (Beatles).

Good for you Mimi!  Now the fun of making it feel like home and getting that 'on the road smile'.  Happy travels!
Yes, it's really nice making it my own.  Just having some of my things in it has made a huge difference. That "On the road smile" hasn't left my face since I saw it for the first time and knew I was going to buy it.  I have never hit the road like this before and getting to do it with my dog and my favorite rig is just a wonderful thing.  Happy travels, yes!  Thank you.:-)

Don't know about your Ford, but for the Chevy that would be an affirmative ie located in between firewall & dash on the passenger side. It cost us $600 to replace the leaking heater unit on our '93 G30. That (along with replacing all hoses) was the key to allowing the entire system to get back to full pressure, with the end result of having the RV run much cooler. We also spent around $600 replacing the entire A/C system, so not only does the RV run better, but we have full heat and cold as warranted.

Enabling the cooling system to operate as intended, as well as having the various components which drive off the serpentine belt running smoothly, is the key to letting the engine reach optimal performance.

Over time, as we've replaced & upgraded certain mechanical features throughout the RV, the incremental improvements just kept adding up, making driving the rig a non-stress, piece-of-cake proposition.
I watched the temp gauge on the 1 1/2 hour drive back and it never got hot, so it sounds like it might be the heater, or maybe a hose?  Either way, each thing that needs attention will be addressed because I have no intention of hitting the road with an RV that isn't in the best running condition it can be in.  I do want it to reach optimal performance, so I can't wait to hear from the mechanic tomorrow about the belts and hoses and, the antifreeze.  With a new air conditioner, I hope I won't have to worry about that!

I love Staffies my neighbor has one that's just a goof ball. We have a Doberman that is spoiled rotten. This is a picture of where he rode for over 3000 miles on our last long trip.

Congrats, Mimi!

That website is long gone but Kent started a new thread called "Road Tunes" so you can post your favorite songs there.

Staffies are among the most gentle of all dogs, yet they are among the most abused.  I just don't understand it.  I grew up with Dobies.  They are so incredibly smart.  I recently lost my red Dobie to a spinal issue. Your little pooch is gorgeous!  He must have -loved- that trip! Never had a Dobie tjat didn't love to go for a ride!  A friend of mine runs Dobies and Little Paws in Fillmore, a no kill shelter. If you're ever in a place to adopt another Dobie, Ardis' shelter is a good place to go.

He really is beautiful☺

Mechanic says the Timing Cover is leaking, so that's where the coolant smell is coming from.  The part isn't expensive, but I'm waiting to find out what the labor is.  I guess I should put this over in the technical forum...

No, Mimi, leave it here for now. However, as you get to know your new-to-you Lazy Daze and have specific technical questions, it probably would be appropriate to move those questions to the Technical forum so they will generate their own threads and make it easier for future lookup.

I've been busy with my new-to-me almost pristine, well cared for 1992 23' T/K (manual calls it a rear lounge).

Looks like a T/K to me from your pictures.

The T/K has two couches in the back; the Rear Lounge has one couch and two chairs.
