Mimi bought an LD!
I bought a LD!  1992 Lazy Daze *Mid Bath* Very Clean  It needs to be sealed. Rear window needs a new gasket. There is a 1" gap in the gasket at the top left rear window and I saw some minor water staining on the rear shade inside (he showed it to me, but claimed ignorance when I asked him about leaking on the phone) so I'll have that looked at immediately.  Absolutely no evidence of water intrusion anywhere else.  Some edges around the outside where LD secures the edges of the roof are cracking around the screws. A few other small things need repair, but not urgent.

Smelled antifreeze in the engine, though radiator was full. That concerns me. I expected to have all the hoses, etc replaced anyway, so I hope that takes care of it.  The smell was not near the radiator.  I hope it doesn't have an overheating issue. We drove it for about 10 minutes and it was hot outside, but I didn't hear any boiling, though I did detect a little bubbling when he took off the radiator cap. I'll have someone go through the engine. I was going to do that anyway.  I expect an immediate  outlay of 3k including tires.  Won't be traveling for about 6 weeks yet, so I have time to make a priority list of repairs.

Best one of the bunch I've see so far. It's clean and everything works!

The main lesson I've learned throughout this process is, if you don't know the seller or the rig, you will most certainly inherit someone else's problems.  Face it. Deal with it and move on.☺

Yea!!!  That is a TK by the way, not a Mid-Bath as the ad suggests. Congratulations and enjoy!

Mimi,

This is very exciting news. Your budget knowingly allowed for some warts.

Surprisingly, I never saw this LD. I work in Los Alamitos. Wadda ya know?

Best wishes on your new-to-you Lazy Daze.

Mimi,
Congratulations on finding a Lazy Daze!

One source of coolant leakage that can make a smell is the heater for the cab.  You might check the hoses that go to the heater and see if something is leaking.

Have fun with your new rig!

Thanks Harold!☺  I didn't smell coolant inside, only in the left side of the engine compartment. Is that typically where the hoses are that lead to the heater?  I will have the mechanic check that out.  Thank you!

Congratulations!  Of course a decent LD comes up in my area after I drove 400 miles to find mine :)  Another shorty too! Looks awesome, I'm glad you found your rig.

Years ago, in the days before blogs were common  :o , I used to have a RVing website. One of the pages was a list of "Road Songs" and that was one of them. Might be fun to start a thread on LDO of everyone's favorite road songs! That's LD related, right?  :)

I'm glad I decided to send you the ad in a message instead of just posting it like I normally do. You have been searching so hard I wanted you to have the chance to see it first. With how many LD's you have looked at that were not up to your expectations this one must be pretty nice.

Congrats on the find.  I like the color.

What's the number on the upper left corner of the rear wall?  RV camp lot number?  Some membership thing?  Mine has "SE37" on the upper right, and PO didn't know what it meant...

Chip,

Mine has SC34.  The original owners were members of the South Central Lazy Daze Group.

Don't know about your Ford, but for the Chevy that would be an affirmative ie located in between firewall & dash on the passenger side. It cost us $600 to replace the leaking heater unit on our '93 G30. That (along with replacing all hoses) was the key to allowing the entire system to get back to full pressure, with the end result of having the RV run much cooler. We also spent around $600 replacing the entire A/C system, so not only does the RV run better, but we have full heat and cold as warranted.

Enabling the cooling system to operate as intended, as well as having the various components which drive off the serpentine belt running smoothly, is the key to letting the engine reach optimal performance.

Over time, as we've replaced & upgraded certain mechanical features throughout the RV, the incremental improvements just kept adding up, making driving the rig a non-stress, piece-of-cake proposition.

Just as a data point, I have a Suburban with a 6-liter engine.  Smelled antifreeze for half a year, but barely any drop in level.  Held off because I needed the truck quite often that winter, but could spare it in the spring.  Wasn't looking forward to the whole dash tear-out for heater core replacement.  Turned out to be water pump, not heater core.  So, you might get lucky, even if you can smell the AF.

Hi everyone!  Sorry I dropped out.  I've been busy with my new-to-me almost pristine, well cared for 1992 23' T/K (manual calls it a rear lounge).

Duro, thank you, thank you, thank you for sending me that link!  I'd just hunted CL from San Diego County to SLO and completely missed this rig.  Because of you, I was the first person to see it.  I don't know how to thank you.  This beautiful LD has been very well cared for. I even saw where and how it was stored.  It's so short, that I have no problems driving it everywhere!  I love that!  My dog already responds to it as 'home' wagging her tail, waiting anxiously to get in after we return from our walk.

The seller couldn't have been nicer.  He's still answering my questions!  He showed me every detail.  Not a single previous conversation I had with sellers was like this one.  This seller was wonderful.  It was just smogged last month.  What a contrast from my previous experiences.  You have to love a seller who gives you the good -and- the bad. That's what I do, as well.

I'm taking it to a very good mechanic tomorrow just to have the engine checked out ie, fluids, hoses, etc.

Here's a picture!

Thank you everyone for your support and kindness as I suffered through one dishonest seller after another.  I hope my posts helped others in their pursuit of their own LD.  I will respond to other comments asap. Still borrowing wifi from the neighbors and still need to plug in for power. Looking at solar panels and other improvements...

Thank you all, so much☺
