Possible evidence of a leak February 06, 2017, 03:58:24 pm If you find a rig that looks pretty good inside & out, but there may be evidence of a leak, would you run without an inspection? The front fan has separated on one edge and it's encrusted with dead ladybugs. Nothing feels soft anywhere, but there are definitely at least 2 leaks. It started its life in CA, then went to Wisconsin and now it's been living outside in SoCal for about a year. Needs 7 new tires. Needs smog. Needs roof and all seams sealed. Needs a new windshield. Needs new fans inside. Everything appears to work. I didn't drive it. Now I can't locate an inspection service. It's feeling like it's just too much $ to justify the price because, without knowing the extent of the water damage, I think fixing everything else might be around 8K. Does tjat seem about right or am I too high?

I was this close to buying a gently used 2006 27' MB with an entertainment system. $60,000 with 7000 miles. I simply said, "Thanks but no thanks. It's not for me". Hey, buy what you want don't take what you can get.Sound advice from an old gentleman. Don't settle for someone else's headaches. There are plenty of others problems out there don't make them your own.I understand your frustration on this hunt...but the right one will come along or you'll change your mind and move on. (Putting my soapbox away)You know Steve, for me, it's a matter of understanding the nature of problems with these old rigs. I have only my car as a reference point. For me, there is a learning curve. I have to walk in someone's shoes to get the message sometimes. Inspecting that rig yesterday was a tremendous learning experience for me. I've never properly inspected an RV before. I've looked at a lot of them, but never really knew what I was looking for. Thanks to everyone here, I had a much better idea of what to look for this time. When I took my dog to the vet, the vet didn't see anything wrong with her, until I pointed it out. I was familiar with my pooch. The vet wasn't. I don't think this is all that different. You are all very familiar with the in's and out's of LD. I'm not. For me, learning about RV's has been a process, not a task. I've been learning through conversation vs. direct questions. My asking questions results in the sharing of opinions and insight that I highly value and respect. It is merely my way of clarifying points made in other threads ie. folks who have bought leaking, messed up old rigs and how they fixed them, etc. While one person states I should not buy an older rig, others have done just that. Reading those threads has given me a better understanding of the trouble some repairs can be. Without reading those threads, I wouldn't have a frame of reference for how difficult it is to not only find a leak, but figure out where the water is ending up and if there is wood rot. I wouldn't have the depth of understanding in how troublesome electrical issues can be, without reading and reading in this forum. Still, there are many conflicting opinions in the forums, so I look for clarity among all of them.Understanding the world of RV's is an ongoing process for me. My knowledge builds on itself with each posting/blog I read and every question I ask that is answered. Assuming anything else about my questions or comments can only lead to misunderstanding. I just wanted to add that, I feel like I'm trying to learn how to drive without actually getting behind the wheel of a car. I think not having real world experience with RV's as many of you have leaves me at a disadvantage. I am attempting to mitigate that disadvantage with questions, challenges, curiosities and conversation. If you or others learn differently, I can respect that.Mimi 1 Likes
