Re: HELP !! will anyone who purchased a 1995-2002 23-24 used LD share the price?

Thank you Jim for posting that....

Mark,   our insurance appraiser did not use the NADA prices.    He researched actual sales and used those as comps.   He couldn't find any good comps in my immediate area and couldn't find any of our exact model (2000 23.5 FL) so used 2 comps he found of 2000 26.5 LDs and adjusted from there.    He added on $$  for the improvements done on our rig that were not in the original specs and came up with the total.    My husband and I both felt we were very fairly treated.

It sounds as if your insurance company was very fair. Do you mind sharing the name of the company?
thanks,

I posted a couple weeks ago for help on getting a fair settlement out of our insurance company after our 2000 23 ft FL Lazy Daze was destroyed in a fire.    I  was so pleased with the responses from so many of you.

Thank you for the 'wayback' machine info which enabled me to get the specs and features list  for our beloved LD.    The Lazy Daze factory also came through and gave us the exact original price of the rig as well as the options that were ordered at the time.

Thanks Ed for the original brochure from 2000 --- I included that also in our paperwork.    And thanks to all who recommended including  improvements we had made as well as other work we had done --- that showed the insurance company that the rig had been well maintained.  We had lost the original receipts in the fire, but were able to come up with credit card statements and cancelled checks.    I won't yell at my hubby anymore about keeping so many years of those kinds of things.

Luckily, I had taken a bunch of pics of the LD in various places over the 4 years we owned it and they showed the overall great outside condition and since we had travelled with our great nephews in it and they are very photogenic, I also had a bunch of good interior shots.

That said, I thought our insurance company treated us very fairly.    The appraiser couldn't find any recent 23 foot sales so used 2 comps of 26 foot LD's and adjusted from there.    We got the appraisal this morning and the money this afternoon.

Now, the big task ahead is to find a new LD.    There seem to be several 26 foot ones available lately, but we are still wanting (we think) to stick to the shorter rig.

Once again ---- Thanks to all

I thought I would show a picture of it when it was in its prime.....
Judy and Bob, I merged the discussions about your insurance claims so they would be in one thread. I also took the liberty of changing the thread topic to make this valuable discussion more searchable. We are all very happy for you that your claim has been settled to your satisfaction. Now on to the next LD!

Whatever works best for the group is fine with me.....

We are insured by CALIFORNIA CASUALTY --- to answer another question.

Our claim involved policies on the Lazy Daze itself, our Mitsubishi truck that was parked near it and damaged by the fire and our homeowners policy which covered the contents of the RV.   We have settled on the truck and the RV and are waiting to find out the  settlement on the contents.

Judy, did you ever get a definitive answer on what caused the fire? I recall that rodents were the usual suspects.

This mishap has reminded me to take up-to-date photos of the contents (in drawers, cabinets and exterior storage compartments) of my LD and to make copies of all receipts and important LD-related documents so as to have a set in a safe place. Most of them are currently in the LD in case I need them while traveling.

No, we still don't know what started the fire.    There really wasn't enough left of the front of the RV for any kind of investigation.

We kept the records in there just for the reasons you mentioned, we will also be doing copies for the next rig.   Great idea on taking pics of the contents we are still keep coming up with more stuff.   We looked at a LD on Tuesday, the bed over the cab was flipped open.   I mentioned we always kept ours down and made up, then realized we did that because we had a memory foam topper on the bed ---- another thing for THE LIST.

Hi Judy and Bob-
Can I ask. Prior to your loss was your LD insured through your auto insurance?
It sounds like you were able to negotiate your replacement cost with your agent based upon the recent selling prices of LD of your year and model and not based upon NADA market values.

Hi Mark,   the LD and our Mitusbishi truck (which was damaged by the fire but fixable)  were covered by our auto insurance, the contents of the LD by our homeowners.   We have all the policies with the same company.

Honestly, we didn't have to negotiate --- the appraiser initially mentioned NADA values, but used actual sales.   We did send him a lot of documents, many that I got with the aid of folks on this site.
