Floor Covering for Newer LDs' Exterior Bins
Since the newer LDs don't have carpeting in the exterior bins, what have others done?  I'm assuming that there would be a lot of rattling and scraping without some kind of cushioning.  Has anyone tried putting down some kind of carpeting or rubber shelf lining?

Our 06 doesn't have carpet in the bins and we have never heard noise coming from them.

Ditto with our '15.

If you decide you want some of the "rubber" non-skid liner, don't buy the small rolls that are sold for cabinets. They are expensive.
Go to a store that sells throw rugs and get a big piece of the non-skid stuff that does under rugs. It's less expensive and much thicker.

Good idea.  I have plastic bins holding tools and stuff in the outside bins.  On twisty mountain roads, I can hear the bin sliding back and forth in the compartment under the forward dinette compartment in our 27MB.  I've used a bath towel with limited success.  Throw rug non-skid will be next.

I cut carpet remnants to fit.

Thinking I might be putting damp stuff in there, I used indoor/outdoor remnants. Actually it is more like astroturf than carpet. It is easy to shake out, light weight, and stuff stays put. Works for me.

We have a 2015 and do not believe that non carpeted compartments have caused any increase in noise. We had a 2002 previously.

I would not use any kind of carpet because of concerns about it holding moisture.  As others have said, I mostly have no floor covering, and I hear no rattling, even with my hearing aids in...  ;-)  I do have a pad in one place - under my compressor, lower rear right bin, Mid-Bath.  It is a cheap 1/2" closed cell foam pad available in the camping section of your local Walmart, where it is sold as a sleeping pad.  It serves double duty for me.  If I am airing up tires or scrubbing them, I can use it as a kneeling pad.  It fits under the compressor, protecting it and taking up almost no space, and is very light.

Thank you all for your  suggestions for the flooring for the exterior bins.  I hadn't thought about carpeting and holding moisture.  Will take that into consideration.  The rubbery pads for rugs would probably dry quickly, I would think.

Just offering another opinion on carpet, Ken. In 14 yrs I've never had a problem with carpet holding moisture, especially here in the West. You travel much more than I and that could make a difference I guess.
