Lazy Daze Newbie, Paint question
Hello All, we just purchased our first Class C, a Lazy Daze 30IB 2000 model. I have a few main concerns and one is the paint. Ours is the green color and it is faded looking. Is there anything i can do to restore the luster and shine? Also I need replacement clearance lights for the top, they are cracked. Does LD carry them or does somebody else? They are round about the size of a half dollar.  Also I need two of the thumb nuts for the tire covers again LD or somewhere else? sorry for all the questions love the coach just need to get it perfect.

Hello, Roddams (first names?) and congrats on your new-to-you LD. Without providing answers to your questions (you will get some in due time), may I suggest since you are new to the LDO forum that you try using the Search functions to find your answers. On the home page, click on Community and then Search and follow the instructions, using different sets of descriptive words until you find links to previous discussions. For the lug nuts in question, type in Kaper II or Kaper II lug nuts. Also, on the home page under Helpful Links near the top, click on The Lazy Daze Companion and use its directory to see what you can find. You'll find a wealth of info about your LD in our archives. I have an '02 30IB, so feel free to contact me directly if you can't find answer to your questions.

Happy Trails!

On the paint issue, I have a friend with a LD that was faded.  Four of us worked for hours to try to bring back the original luster.  We used various materials including rubbing and polishing compound, a power polisher, polyseal, and several waxes.  We were not successful.  It shone, but was still faded, like looking at the finish through shiny wax paper.  Based on that, my general, unproven, opinion is that a finish that is cared for faithfully and regularly will maintain its appearance fairly well, but once the color fades, the only way to regain the original look is repainting.

A good source for the lens covers is a garage that caters to larger trucks. They typically stock a good selection of such things. Big truck stops frequently carry them as well. Bring one with you when you go looking.
The LD store will have them but they tend to be quite expensive. Generally you can do better locally.
I think you are talking about the rubber "Nuts" that hold the lift-up fender skirt in place. If so, probably LD will be your only source.

Enjoy your new rig.

Hi Roddams, congratulations on your green Lazy Daze. Sorry to hear about your faded looking paint. You can make the surface shiny, but the faded part is under the surface and the only cure I know of is to repaint over it. I've tried about everything else.
The amber lenses are about $1.50 each and just snap on. Direct sunlight is tough on them, I replace them about every 3 years. My LD is a 1999, and I'm on my 5th or sixth set. JCT has a good message, Reply #1 in 'Lazy Daze Technical, Front Running Lights. The factory has them, Peterson sells them, other RV parts places  sell them. 2 - 1/2" diameter. Your 2000 should have the same lenses as my 1999. Try hardware stores like Home Depot for the black hand wheel type of side skirt hold down, or Lazy Daze of course. I don't know when LD changed to that hand wheel, but mine had 1/4" - 20 stainless wing nuts. a blob of thread locker around the bottom of the screw will prevent the wing nut from coming off the screw for the type of wheel skirt retainer my '99 has. Don't get any thread lock liquid on the wingnut itself or any threads except at the very bottom. The blue semi-permanent is just to keep the wingnut from disappearing onto the road if it comes loose.
I put in longer screws and a harder to remove collar. Also washers to hold the skirt better. RonB

"Also I need two of the thumb nuts for the tire covers..."

Here's a helpful little tip concerning the 'thumb nuts' which hold down the fender skirts... I went to my nearby home improvement store and purchased four nylon washers of appropriate size to act as buffers between the nuts and the skirt. Had to open the hole a wee bit to make it fit but it keeps the nut from damaging the paint on the skirt.   ;)

Hello All, thanks for the great replies! We have spent all weekend getting our stuff put into the LD. We have downsized from a 4 slide 43' Montana 5th wheel that we had for 7 years so its been a chore. Amazingly, we didn't have to get rid of much. This 30IB has an incredible amount of storage.  I ordered the lenses and i got extra to replace in the future.  I think I'm gonna get the paint close to how I want with a rubbing compound mixture a body shop buddy gave me. Fingers crossed.  My name is Jared and my wife is Haley. We live in Centre, Al near Rome, Ga on Weiss Lake.  Is there a camping club for LD owners that has campouts and gatherings with other LD owners? I found some stickers from rallies from the original owners in the copious amounts of paperwork we got with the coach.  Just a few more things to fix. Mainly generator service and finding the vacuum leak that has the Dash A/C only blowing out the defrost and we'll be ready to roll.

Look up South East Lazy Daze group, Yahoo! Groups .  This year there is a combined trip with the North East Lazy Daze on border of VA and NC near Mt Airy.

Jared and Haley welcome to the cult.  I would second my buddy John's suggestion to seek out the SE LD group.  I have met several of the members at various club outings, and at the informal gathering at the Yalaha Bakery in Yalaha Florida in February.  Ah, I have one question though, are you certain that you are not over weight with all of the stuff from your fiver in the 30 foot LD?  Best wishes, safe travels, and hope to meet you at a combined gathering of the NE & SE groups.

"This 30IB has an incredible amount of storage."

Just a caution: The amount of storage space available doesn't necessarily mean that the "holes" can be filled without exceeding the GVWR.

A 2000 30.5' is built on the same Ford E-450 chassis as the 26.5' and the 23.5', i.e., with a  GVWR of 14050 pounds, but it's a heavier "box" than the smaller rigs to start with, and offers a more limited CCC than the other sizes.

The OP might want to have a four-corner weighing done, not only to calculate the correct tires pressures, but to make sure that the rig is not overloaded.

Hello again. Had rig weighed today at CAT on four corners. Had to move some stuff to drivers side but we still are well under gcwr. Thanks for your concern. Dropped off at Cummings today for generator service.

I'm glad you had the rig weighed.  But, remember, you want to be under the GVWR.  The GCWR only comes into play if you are towing.  So, are you under 14050 pounds?  Again, welcome!
