Lost Elfie - Need Help
DW said we have misplaced or lost Elfie.  Grand-daughter doesn't know yet and she's expecting to see Elfie very soon as she has for most of her little life.   I'm open to any suggestions on how to handle this "tragedy" and what we might say to her.  We can't say ... "We lost Elfie!"  That would be like saying we lost Santa. (Btw ... this is about the Elf on the Shelf for those who might not about about Elfie.)

Hoping for help so as to not break a tiny heart.

Perhaps you could get a new "Elfie" and continue the fun. If the new Elf looks different tell her Santa gave Ellie and promotion and he got a make over. 😉 New elf on a shelfs can be found at Target, Walmart and Amazon.

Ed,

There's a wonderful place on line. Perhaps you've heard about it.

It's called eBay (see Efie Boy pic).

Hope it gets to you fast. Or like Cynthia suggested, check her store listings.

Hey, a little White Lie can't hurt, right?

A Quick Plan - Visit Target at 9:00 AM tomorrow and find a new Elfie.  Have Elfie in place before we pickup GD after school.  We're ready to tell GD that "Santa gave Ellie a promotion" as suggest by LB2.   Btw, around this neighborhood, Elfie arrives on December 1.  We're cuttin' it close.  Gracias for the help.

Such good grandparents. I remember when I was very young and had a black velvet pony that I could actually sit on without crushing it.

My Aunt always wanted me to give it to her so she could "gift" it to a needy child somewhere.

One day when I was a teen I looked up for my beloved pony with its red saddle and laced fringe. No where was it to be found. No where was there some one to take the blame for its disappearance.

Nor was there anyone to make it magically reappear.

I miss my pony. Sad, huh? Ed, where were you when I needed you or what did you do with my pony? 😱

I think must of us have a story like that Kent.  I remember my 95 year old father-in-law had a sad story that he carried with him his entire life.  Sometimes we forget things and some things remain with all our lives.  We didn't want that to happen with GD and her beloved Elfie.

And thank you for your story which I shared with DW.  Take care.

Ed and Margee,

What was your grand-daughters reaction?

I was out walking when DW and GD returned home from school.  GD immediately called me with her tiny, little voice full of excitement that a new Elfie had found her in our house.  At 100 mph, GD told me how HER Elfie was so special and so beautiful.  And "that somehow, her Elfie found ME!"  GD calls me PaPa and so it was PaPa "this" and PaPa "that".   So I'd have to say that now I have something to remember too.

Ed, what a delightful saga...how old is your GD...did you take a family photo with the new Elfie?  I saw a Family Circle cartoon once where one of the little boys is saying to the Mom, "Is this one of our "Good Ol' Days"?"   Thx to you & DW/Margie for sharing this adventure & what is sure to be one of your GD's "Good Ol' Days."   ;D

Hello Lynne.  Little Hannah is 10 years old and is trying to hold on to all the Christmas stories and tales.  Part of her knows it's make-believe but she is steadfastly holding on to the other part.  We didn't take a family photo with the new Elfie, but just of the little character as shown above.

And best of luck with your winterization project.  We finished yesterday since the temps this Friday are suppose to be about 19F.  Then it warms up and we're headed to Inks Lake State Park next week.  I just couldn't risk any damage to our LD with those cold temps.

Take care.

Ed & Margee--

My mother's older sister decided to not raise my cousins with "Santa," so we had some heated exchanges a few times, then for some reason my mother decided it was time to tell us the "truth" about Santa the year I was 10...my sister is 17 months younger, but Mother apparently decided to get it all over at once.  I don't know if Mother discussed with Daddy that it was time for "the talk," but I do remember my sister would put out a stocking even when she was in college & it would have something in it (I was married & not living there, so just heard about the stocking), & Daddy made a comment once 'Ya gotta believe" to get stuff.   ;D   She still puts a stocking out.

I didn't really "tell" my kids, but I knew they had figured something out before I was ready for them to let go...one year Maggie said something about finding the extra stocking stuffings that "Ms. Claus didn't hide very well" (though I was a single parent, I signed things with just "Santa" & I knew the jig was up when Mag commented about "Ms. Claus".

How nice Hannah is close enough for you to enjoy her/pick her up from school/etc.; we were blest to have that for my kids...my grandparents lived further away.  Best to y'all & your new Elfie.
