Winterizing Glitch
I with the help of some of you winterized our 27MB, but forgot one step. I left out running the antifreeze thru the kitchen sprayer on hot and cold. So here is my GLITCH. I took the antifreeze to the LD, hooked up the tube to the water pump and the other end into the antifreeze jug. Turned the pump on and went thru a half gallon  in no time and it didn't come out the kitchen sink. I checked outside and it all came out the city inlet valve. What am I doing wrong. I left the pump on today and it never shut off, and some antifreeze was still coming out the city water inlet valve. Any thoughts?  Thanks John in Bend

At first glance, I'd suggest that the check valve on the city water supply is faulty.  I'd close the city water connection with a screw-in plug and then try again.  Something like this:  Amazon.com: LASER RV Hose Plug With Strap 3/4" Mpt: Automotive

In addition, you may be pumping anti-freeze into the water heater which is 6 gallons as you know.   We decided to use compressed air to blow the lines along with the usual winterization steps outlined in the LD Manual and elsewhere.

My favorite resource on this subject is The Lazy Daze Companion: Search results for winterize.

Hope this helps a bit.

If you placed a strainer valve/gasket in the city inlet, make sure it is not in backwards (screen pointing inward). If so, will keep valve open and produce your symptoms.  ::)  :-[

John, I believe you inadvertently dislodged the o-ring in the city water connection when you were winterizing.

I went back to your message from a couple weeks ago where you were asking a winterizing question about pressing in on the city water connection to remove water from that line. One well intended person told you to press the plunger on the center of the city water connection while the water line was under pressure which was very wrong. The next couple of posts mentioned that you had to depressurize the water lines before pressing that plunger.

What you are supposed to do ***before*** pushing on that plunger is turn off the water pump, open a faucet to relieve the pressure, THEN push the plunger in. You will get some water drip out, then repeat the process of turning on the water pump to pump more of the RV antifreeze from the bottle, again turn OFF the pump, open a faucet to relieve the pressure and then press in on the plunger again. Repeat that process uuntil you finally see some of the pink antifreeze drip out of the city cconnection.

The reason I know this is because I learned the hard way. I now have a note in my winterizing kit reminding me to ALWAYS depressurize before pressing in on the plunger

Ok now, what to do about the city water connection so you won't be pumping out of you city water connection when you go to use your LD when you go to use it next year. You have two choices. Replace the entire city water connection which is a pain in the neck, especially painting it to match your rig and sealing it to the body. Or, you can repair the city water connection which ismuch easier to do than explain. There is an article anbout it on the Lazy Daze Companion. I learned how to do this from Vinceat Lazy Daze.

Good luck. Maybe Ed will come to help you;-)

Ed, I do have a by pass on the HWH, and what does the Laser RV Hose Plug do? Reseat the o ring if dislodged (fingers crossed)
Steve, It sounds like I dislodged the o ring, better call Vince and send me 2 just in case I am terrible with plumbing. Can the o rings be purchased from an rv supply store locally or from the Mothership?  Thanks John in Bend   Need to get this done before the freezing temps arrive. Jan 2 can't get here soon enough SoCal, AZ.,Big Bend NP here we come.

John.
Just get one of these locally at most any place that sells lawn and garden items.
Insert it into the fresh water connection. The outflow of your pink stuff will stop. Then finish your winterizing. You can then deal with the O ring issue at your leisure.

John, the easiest way to get the parts you need is to just buy another city water connection assembly that you will use as a donner for the parts you will need. I don't know of any other way to get what you need.

When you get a new city water valve, you will press in the tip of the plunger and force it to separate from the disc that you see from the side of the valve where you would attach the hose. From the back side of the new valve, you will end up with the plunger with an o-ring around it. This part will look like a golf tee. You will then disconnect the water line from the city water connection inside your coach. On my midbath, this was behind the toilet near the floor behind an angled piece of interior trim. (The trim was held in place by a few screws). This is very easy to do, almost like attaching a hose to a spigot. When you have the supply line disconnected, from the outside of the coach, push harder on that plunger so it separates from the plastic disc. From the inside, you can pull out the old plunger and unseated o-ring. Now you insert the new plunger, have someone hold it in place, and from the outside, you hold that plastic disc with forceps, being carefull to not break off the little ears on it, and force the two pieces together. Reconnect the water line to the city water connection and you should be good to go.

While this sounds complicated, once you have a new city water valve in your hands, you will see how easy this is to do.

Good luck. I guess Texas Ed has not offered to come help fix this;-)

Thanks to all. I called and talked with Vince and he had me try a very simple task first and that was to use an ice pick or similar tool to poke just behind the white plastic piece. I did and the escaping fluid stopped. Then went inside and winterized (again) with no issues of escaping fluids. I  now need to use the city water valve on our journey in Jan just to make sure it is still working properly. Thanks again, lessons learned. John in Bend

Hello John.  Could you explain about the "poke behind the white plastic piece"?  What did you actually do with the pick?  Were you able to reseat the O-ring?

I also want to express my sincere apology to you for incorrect information in an earlier post regarding the check valve and winterizing.  I was just flat wrong.   I've also learned a lesson too.

And thanks in advance.

Ed, Just used a small finish nail and started poking and prodding behind the white plastic piece and depressing the spring. It helped that the pump was on and with my hearing aids turned up the gurgling sound stopped and the fluid stopped escaping. Life is good. Vince told me to make sure that I use the city water valve to make sure it is still working. We have an appointment on 1/6 for some warranty issues they could address it if it is not fixed.  Thanks John in Bend
